I'm guessing this is to allow for expansion/contraction between the cut areas?
Depends on where you live, here individual pavers won't stay there together regardless of what bed you put them on due to the shrink/swell clays. That's pretty much the only way to get that look. In the summer you can get cracks in the ground 3-4" wide and the pavers just fall into them. With a reinforced slab it floats and works out just fine.Either way, its a shitty concept. It may be work smarter, not harder to you.. But all I see is crevices in the Concrete that water and dirt is going to stand in. Maintenance all the damn time > Costing more than it would have to just do it correctly. Stress fractures will appear in that, but you wont be able to see them. Its just lazy and dumb imo.
