So I always tell people my grandmother got me into vidya. Well, she’s 81, and starting to make an effort to disseminate some inheritance. In addition to a fat check, I got something that means more to me - her vidya collection. I’ve also got her Atari 7800 in a box in the garage she gave me along with a fuckton of 2600 and 7800 games. I also have her original NES, but it needs the connectors replaced. She couldn’t find her copy of Tetris or SMB3 that she’d stay up all night playing. I still remember her waking me up when she beat Bowser in SMB3 telling me she got that son of a bitch. Gonna be hard when she follows her husband to the other side. My parents were druggies and her and my grandfather did their best to make up for it. Many nights playing video games with her and many days baling hay and feeding cows with him on their farm. I remember coal mine strikes in the late 80’s and 90’s where beef from cows we raised and canned veggies from their garden were all we had. I dare say those are lost arts today. I might just cry. It makes me hope I’m a better dad to my boys than mine was to me and at least half as good as my grandfather was. My wife is already a fantastic mom.
