It's from Evil Dead 1 and 2. (I just liked that CitW was basically named after the cabin in the woods that ED1 & 2 takes place in)

I was this many years old before ever thinking about this:
The Bat-signal, as always shown in comics / TV / movies. Works by using a big ol' search-light with a bat image on it . . . .
But that will never project an in focus image. It would never work anywhere close. 1/2 a second of thought and you get it, I just never did.
Yes the image I posted shows using a soft light, but the search light isn't going to work either.
