House I serviced today. The tree in their front yard is over 300 years old. Said it raises the value of the house by $20,000.

The tree being over 300 or the additional $20,000 in property value?

I have heard of customers paying $500-$2000 to replace young Japanese Maples. If I were financially able to, I wouldn’t hesitate to pay an extra $20,000 for a 300 year old tree.

When I get back to Dallas, I’ll take a pic of a tree in the neighborhood my ex lives in. That tree is over 100 years old and this tree dwarfs that one. I do not doubt their claim.

Well, there has to be some value in old trees. The one I mentioned that’s in my ex’s neighborhood takes up a whole lot on its own. The developer could have leveled the tree to erect a house that could have been more money in their pocket, but instead took a page from Back to the Future and named the neighborhood after the tree.

To each their own, but if shopping for a house, I would specifically look for one with large trees, preferably old ones, such as the one above.
