They do that with everything. Back in 1995 there was the Collision in Korea, a professional wrestling event put together by Antonio Inoki in conjunction with WCW. The Norks no sold the entire two-day show up until Inoki versus Rick Flair to close things out at the end of day two.

Interesting... never noticed how far back the gun is tucked under the helicopter.
When they built Blue Thunder the "gun" really made the helicopter very difficult to fly according to the stunt pilot. Here's a whole gallery from one of the on set photographers.
