grocery melt is real, i have a rolling cooler in the trunk of both cars just for that
i don't fill it up /up ice before i shop, i just leave the cooler in the trunk and put cold groceries in there after i'm done shopping, i'll self checkout (and when i shop the top part of the cart i reserve for fridge items) so i just bag the fridge items all together and just plop em into the cooler.
the coolers for being lightweight so they don't take up much space or waste gas and they were free cuz the company gave them away as employee promo stuff.
i used to have the picnic cooler kind in the trunks
but the rolling cooler is best b/c you can just attach a huge carabiner to it and hook your grocery backs on it and just wheel in all your shit to the fridge.

If decide you want ice it's easiest to just keep a couple frozen bottles of water in your freezer. Going shopping? Grab a couple. They're reusable and drinkable in a pinch.
