alice springs is a bit of a nightmare at the moment. generations of severe child abuse (family strains of STD's being carried by toddlers for example) and chronic alcoholism have created roving packs of feral kids who terrorise the city, and government, being what it is, does fuck all about it. it's not like baltimore or anything, but pretty bad for australia. also it's in the absolute literal middle of fucking nowhere.
