I had a pre-internet ( late 80's ) gore viewing experience. One of my high school friend's father was a leading coroner. He carried out autopsies for some well known murder cases and investigations.
As such, when we were at their place, he had books documenting various histories of extreme cases with pictures of the bodies / part etc from all kinds of things. edit - to clarify: These were from international cases, not specific things he was working on.
Guess what, we were not supposed to be looking through them, that's what we did. And yes there was that initial OMG factor, but after a while ( growing up experience I like to think) I got it out of my system and kinda quickly was over it. That's the body of someone who's likely still got close relatives / friends and here am I OMGing at their horrible death.
So by the time the early internet and those rotten / orgish sites sprang up - I was "no thanks, been there".
