those Aymish are mad lads. these are some locals in northern maine harvesting ice. stored underground in insulated ice houses, lasts all year.

I've seen this done locally (not Amish) when I was a kid. We still had a place in town that sold lake ice. It's easier to preserve then you'd think. They just had a large barn and packed the ice in wood shavings, that's it. It lasted all summer.

How the fuck is that mad lads? I used to like swimming in lakes when the ice first melted. When the ice is that thick you can build train tracks across it. People would bring their snow plows out and make impromptu hockey arenas. I remember many occasions where we spun trucks out on frozen lakes for fun. Not enough pictures of it, so this is the best oblig pic I got.

maybe youre just super hardcore mate. but temporary ice skating rinks and polar dips isnt the same as sawing up a MF lake to store ice so you can prevent your perishables from spoiling so you can survive. i myself like to push a button on the fridge that dispense instant ice so i can slowly kill myself with delicious liqour on the rocks.
*edit : ive grown up in northern maine so i know all about frozen bodies of water and what you can do on them.
