This train of thought is completely backwards. They showed the traveling because what was taking place was relevant to the characters.

Now it's not so there's no reason to waste our time with it pointless filler and it's too late to still be expanding with more side stories and flocks of new characters.
The problem is the logical disconnect. Jon and crew should have froze to death by the time it took the raven to get to dragonstone and THEN Danny and her dragons to fly north.

Best not to think too hard about it, sort of like having chains out of nowhere. We don't know how much time passed between the downing and the chaining though. Knowing GoT it could have been 2 hours or 5 years.
7 episodes after tonight, which you obviously saw, so even less time. On the bright side of it all, I expect once the real battle begins there will be less warping around and time gaps as pretty much it will be just 2-3 factions going on.

Obviously if he already knew Viserion would die there, he knew he'd need the chains to haul his body out of the lake. As for divers, I assume he just had wights roam blindly around the bottom of the lake until they stumbled over the body.

jon has relevant shit going on with eastwatch and his odd status as King, they needed to address. they have shit going on at dragonstone with dragon glass farming thats relevant. im sure there is relevant shit going on between those two places. they skipped it because the story is thin as fuck and they dont have a source material to rely on.

Yeah, character building/exploration should be an ongoing thing, not something that ever stops or gets downplayed. There could be a lot of moments where only existing characters interact that further your understanding of them or the situation. That would only be boring if the writers did a bad job. It doesn't have to be a ton of time, but some more than what they have had in this season. Time to build things up also adds to the tension and impact of the big scenes.

Chuk, stop making sense. It's really messing with my head.

lol random story....10 years ago I got banned from a forum for my favourite soccer team. This was back when 24 was at its height and back when the UK broadcast would be several weeks behind the US one. I was literally grabbing episodes asap after they aired from IRC and FTP which was probably several steps before they reached torrents.

Anyway, I don't recall what prompted it but I decided to spoil 24 in the 24 thread. Obviously 24 episodes nearly always end on cliffhangers. I got banned and kept re-registering, in the end I was making usernames with the spoiler in the name and PMing the people I knew would suffer the most.

Anyway, I no longer have the IP that was IP banned and re-registered, had some fun looking at the old threads, tried to get a reaction by bumping them but nobody bit and forgot about it for several months.

Went back yesterday and posted a
WoW Frostwyrm
gif and got banned again with this message:

You have been banned for the following reason:
Really, you've not grown up just a bit in the last decade?

Date the ban will be lifted: Never

you're confusing plot points with character development.

Dragonglass mining is a plot point. Character development is Jaime telling Brienne in the bath why he killed Aerys, or Arya meeting Lannister soldiers on the road and not killing them because she recognises they're just ordinary people etc

I'm not sure how I could confuse something I never said since I never mentioned dragon glass mining. A positive reply is not a tacit approval of everything said in an original post.

I said "There could be a lot of moments where only existing characters interact that further your understanding of them or the situation." Character interactions that further your understanding of them sounds curiously like character development to me. Ideally, you would have scenes that contribute to plot while also contributing to character development. I'm not saying such scenes don't exist this season. They do, but I don't think there's enough of them and they're not always done terribly well, especially in comparison to prior seasons. Again, I think some time spent on that would further tension in the scenes with high drama. We had like 30 minutes of Dany feeling defeated/doubtful to then being victorious again with the High Garden/Loot Train stuff.

It is true the show has changed. Go back to s1, the tone is different. The show has largely become a spectacle, albeit an entertaining one. Still well executed though not in the same way.

plot points and how characters handle them also advances characters. when ned stark beheaded those wall deserters, it established that he is a man of principles, tradition and dedicated to his duty to follow the rules. its what go him killed. we dont have much to etablish jon snow's role as King of the North. he pardoned some rogue northern houses. but not much else beside that. he ditched pretty fucking fast.
