The episode is fucking stupid like all the other post-book episodes, it just had a really awesome looking battle sequence. It made Jon a total fucking idiot unfit to command troops and head-faked us with 'maybe Sansa isnt an idiot anymore' only to reveal 'nope, Sansa is still a total fucking idiot too'.

Darth Sansa had a lot of potential as more than just a meme, like hey she finally learned something from all those people passing her around like a playing piece. The idea that she intentionally withheld the Knights of the Vale to weaken Jon's position was a juicy one. But nope, she was just a moron.
Yeah, that sums it up pretty well. Spectacle good, everything else bad.

War of the Dragons is the safest bet: GRRM wrote a shitload of lore, setting is still familiar, and you can milk some good drama from factions

That's them passing the buck. Does anyone honestly believe anything these hacks say?

He has writers credits for 11 episodes. But they want to blame him for all the "bad".

He was also an executive producer and an "executive story editor" as early as 2012

Edit: IMDB shows which episodes he wrote. When I try to expand all 11 it just hangs but here are the latest 5, meaning 6 were written earlier:

- A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (2019) ... (written for television by)
- Stormborn (2017) ... (written for television by)
- The Broken Man (2016) ... (written for television by)
- Blood of My Blood (2016) ... (written for television by)
- Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken (2015) ... (written for television by)

wow thats crazy to FILM a pilot and then cancel. like they thought its totally not salvageable in any way? weird
Not weird. They watched the pilot and thought it sucked. Maybe the guy in charge of making the decision wasnt a SJW fan.

Fire and Blood, the book, is not good. It's got almost no dialogue and doesn't even make it up to the cool shit like the Blackfire Rebellion. It's been compared to Tolkien's The Simirillion which seems apt given my understanding of that book.

Game of Thrones is carried by it's array of heroes and villains and the little journeys we follow them on. Fire and Blood is so fucking dry. Oh man, the story of the guy that built some roads. Sign me the fuck up for adventure.

Hey, they just scored 100m each to make a shitty show for deadflix. They can make whatever shit they want because deadflix is going bankrupt anyway, so no pressure to produce a hit. and they probably have a completed source material to copy paste from.

Good for them admitting they knew fuck all about how to create this show. But seriously fuck them for ruining it.

What's funny is how much time was spent over the years by fans theory crafting of plot points & hidden meanings when all along there was no master plan whatsoever aside from GRRM's books & outlines - which the directors clearly didn't care for.

Benioff and Weiss certainly did an utterly poor job at running this show but don't forget the highly questionable casting choices, which is mostly production side (HBO). Emilia Clarke can't act for shit in any role she ever had, Lena Headey misread Cersei as "Margaret Thatcher but sexy", Kit Harrington spent ages getting into his role, Aidan Gillen never settled about his character accent and I'm not even talking about that turkish porn actress being cast out of fucking nowhere, ironically being awul at playing a whore. Sophie Turner sure didn't do a great job either but his character development is so corny and absurd she probably did a better job in GoT than playing Boy George in Dark Phoenix.

It's television, writing is very important but there's just so much you can write, you also need the act to bring your character to life. Emilia Clarke playing Daenerys is a recast, but beside getting nude a lot during first seasons, her acting is so bad it's distracting. And by distracting I mean "Silence of the Lambs remake with Rihanna as Clarice Starling" distracting. I understand you're not gonna take only A-list actors if your plan is a 3-5 or more years long TV production, but there's a lot of people out there that can act, you just have to get out of UK sometimes.

Emilia Clarke sucks but GoT had great casting and performances on the whole. The writing was so horrendous toward the end that even the good acting couldn't save it.

You're right, I got tunneled into slamming the bad ones, but there's good ones too:

- Peter Dinklage as Tyrion
- Nikolaj coster-waldau as Jaime
- Liam Cunnigham as Davos
- Sean Bean as the guy who dies early
- Diana Rigg as Olenna
- Charles Dance as Tywin
- Conleth Hill as Varys
- Mark Addy as Robert Baratheon
Even Alfie Allen is good at Theon too.

Yeah I don't get all the overblown Emilia Clarke hate. Sure she's been awful in her big screen outings but the idea that 'her acting is so bad it's distracting' in GoT is ridiculous. Sure she doesn't measure up to the powerhouses of the series like Dance or Dinklage, but during the earlier seasons she was fine and even had one of the best scenes in the entire series (The Sack of Astapor). The spectacularly shitty writing of the later seasons certainly exposed her compared to the better actors, but the entire series was suffering at that point.

Saying that Lena Headey, Kit Harrington, and Aidan Gillen were miscast is just pure pants on hand retarded though.

D&D had never seen acting before. How are they going to cast an actor in Emilia's case.

Benioff worked on both 25th Hour and Troy: Edward Norton, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Barry Pepper, Brad Pitt, Brendan Gleeson, Eric Bana, Diane Kruger, Orlando Bloom, etc. I'm sure he had opportunities watching good actors there.

Troy wasn't a showcase for any thespian, and 25th hour was narrow and ham-fisted.

Troy was famously panned as emotionally hollow.
