One: Drogo didn't rape Dany. That was an HBO-ism* as much as the Jaime/Cersei sept scene, Roz appearances/subplot, and Littlefinger's stupid monologue with the whores going at it in the background. Not so sure I agree with that. Remember our Lord of Death George R. R. Martin likes his characters to have grey areas and Dany's hell area was basically her entire life before this point. Lost her family and birthright. Physically and sexually abused by her brother. Used as property to be sold by her brother and supposed friends. Fell in love with her rapist then bore his children only to watch him AND her unborn child die.
Then she gets dragons who are being fought over, stolen, bought and killed for. I'd say she probably has a bit of a long lifespan left if for no other reason then to serve as the Iron Bank of Bravos tool to get their money bank (whether she knows shes the tool or not). Or as far as plot goes she serves as a way to start up a whole new fucked up war right as the wall has fallen the barbarians are raiding, the walkers are coming behind them and the undead and newly power enhanced starks come hunting for blood.
Well, she definitely didn't have a choice in the wedding, but the sex the first night was consensual. One: Drogo didn't rape Dany. That was an HBO-ism* as much as the Jaime/Cersei sept scene, Roz appearances/subplot, and Littlefinger's stupid monologue with the whores going at it in the background.
...Derp. You are correct. :|Well, she definitely didn't have a choice in the wedding, but the sex the first night was consensual.
However, she was raped nightly for weeks after that.
Yeah but on the whole "timeline of things" Essos is still very much in the slaves are our main workforce and providers to the super elite section. Westeros has been through hundreds (?) of years of rebellion, tyrants, and shifting politics. We've had some pretty spectacular descriptions of what Dragonstone, Harrenhal was it?, all the castles of the Knight's Watch, etc... all looked like in the glory days. Before dragons torched that shit and the slaves were freed to become serfs and die of dysentery and rickets. Dany is going through her emancipation proclamation so give it a while and those pyramids and everything will look like Egypt.xpost from the non spoiler thread
I had never thought of that and Stave is pretty right. We've talked about how there's a huge split between the two continents but the fantasy and powerlevel seems really off between say, pre-nerf Jaime and Daario.
As said before, there was nothing kind in that lecture, just manipulation. He realizes that the kid is still pliable, and he's telling him to listen to his counsel, now and forever. It's great how much range Tywin's character has too. The stark difference in how kind he was to his remaining grandson was fantastic.
Randyll Tarly is still alive.Oh and to top it off the greatest military genius of westeros was just offed by his dwarf son.
Yeah, Tywin is beyond kind. He sees Tommen as the future of the Lannister legacy. And there's nothing evil or wrong in that, and his actions to make him a wise king would be hard to not classify as good even if they are only to further the strength of his own house. As said before, there was nothing kind in that lecture, just manipulation. What? Why would you think she'd be marginalized in any way?Dany will either die or be marginalized/treated like a typical Westeros female (ie, like a baby factory). I wouldn't be half surprised if Varys had a hand in it, either.
I guess you don't know how manipulation works. Pretend to be kind, pretend to be your victim's strongest supporter and manipulate them into doing your bidding. He gets to have power over the king, without having to be the target of all scrutiny that comes with being the king. He gets to rule from the shadows. The man is brilliant, cunning and calculating. I don't think he capable of actually, genuine kindness.Yeah, Tywin is beyond kind. He sees Tommen as the future of the Lannister legacy. We don't know that yet. Joff was a terrible king. He never had Tywin taking him under his wing. What Tywin said is completely true. Listen to others and make a decision based upon your trusted advisers. Sounds pretty good. Joff would just torture animals and skip meetings. Tywin could simply be trying to mold a good king where he saw Cersei fail so badly.I guess you don't know how manipulation works. Tywin's goals and ambitions were well established in what I think was the first scene with him.Y'all be trippin. You dun drank the Tywin Kool-Aid. That man is a mind warrior who gives no shits about anything other than himself and his goals.
lulzThe most fascinating thing about Tywin to me is how he can shrug off everything and be level headed and plan for the future except for one thing. Tyrion and the fact the mother died giving birth to him. Tyrion is his Achilles heel.
