yes slightly differently, half an inch difference at the hips iirc, ie nothing. It was one of the many "whoops" by GRRM that lead to him using Elio Garcia (of Westeros.org) as a "fact checker" for the details on characters so extremely minor that he's forgotten what they look like. see also young griff.

I don't know of any book readers in this community who are eagerly awaiting the next book but don't watch GoT, so I'm not worried about having a thread to talk about the books that doesn't allow talking about the TV show.

We'll see how this season goes, but my guess is that there will still be plot points explored in the book that are ahead of the show by the end of this season, so I don't think we'll have a merger yet. I do think people who really like the show but didn't read the books should look forward to finally reading the Spoiler thread once the show catches up. Especially the thread during the time of the red wedding and the viper vs the hound fight.

Me! I've not watched the show yet (beyond a few clips and the opening title scene).
Though I don't care about spoilers, so I'm not really that spot.

Yea, but the thing is it seems like either the political maneuvering is pointless to the story, or the supernatural stuff is pointless to the story. If it does come to lets all stand together and fight the white walkers, then what was the point of all this shit been going on to that story? The Lannisters/Starks/Martells are all just backstory in that case. 5 books of back story? If it never comes to fighting the white walkers or the dragons fucking shit up... then... what was the point of them?

It's like watching Toy Story and they have the story of the parents going on in parallel and then one day the parents come in and light all the toys on fire and proceed to fight each other.
He's plotted himself into a corner. It's pretty obvious he never anticipated becoming popular, and was perfectly fine with leaving the story ambiguous. But then someone offered him a whole pile of cash and he said, "Yeah, sure! I can crank this shit out, NP". And then he fucked around for about 10 years. And then he died of clogged arteries and an ischemic stroke.

His obit in the trades will read, "GRRM told the longest fluffy dog joke in a generation."

I always felt that by Oldtown "removing" magic they are just ignoring it. Propagating the concept that magic is bullshit (since they teach all the rich people's kids) and not preserving any magic related lore. The World of Ice and Fire book was actually really cool. There's all kinds of unexplained shit in the world that nobody really understands. Ancient Ruins made of the oily black stone (Seastone Chair) that nobody knows the origin of. Asshai is made entirely of this black stone and so is Yeen. Which are both basically Cthulhu cities that predate mankind. The foundation of the Hightower in Oldtown is made of the same material and nobody knows where it came from either.

Fish people in the Basilisk Isles and Thousand Islands. I like the idea they're trying to create. Westeros is in deep shit because they are focusing entirely on petty squabbles and have spent the last 300 years since the Doom of Valyria actively trying to ignore the (magical) reality around them. Its like the world is more magic than it isn't. But since its all inherently unpredictable they just say fuck it. Lets stick with shit we understand. That is now coming back to fuck them with the Others and the Long Night returning.

George R.R. Martin skipping - Zap2it | News & Features
"I'm not actually writing an episode for Season 5," Martin tells Zap2it during an interview after the show's San Diego Comic-Con 2014 panel. "As you may know, there's this book that people are kind of getting antsy about delivering. It takes me roughly a month to do an episode, so I decided, given the realities, I'd better skip this one this season and just concentrate on finishing the book."
