The stonemen fight I actually thought was good- it really seemed like they where trying to fight these guys, in a little darn boat and not have them touch them- that along makes fighting them 100x harder as many close combat fighting is grappling etc.

I think what is contributing to the diminished quality of the fight scenes this season, in addition to whatever other issues they are having, is the way the fights are edited. Editing can mask the flaws in the performances of actors and stunt doubles and make a fight feel as though it has more going on in it than was actually the case. Shots tight in around the upper body rather than full body shots that show just how uncoordinated the actors are in costume with weapons, quick short cuts between angles and perspectives, and that sort of thing. I don't know if the same people are in those jobs this season, but the fights have by and large been 90's era basic cable in quality.

Though the Ser Barristan/Sons of the Harpy fight, realistically, should have been as ugly as it was in that setting; limited space with lots of opponents.

Aren't they also blowing most of their budget on 1 or 2 episodes (9, 10) in most of the seasons anyways? I wouldn't be surprised if they're spending a ton on the money shots and using very little for the fluff episodes. This season has almost been all fluff.

I just don't see any of this diminished quality you guys are talking about. The two Dorne fights this season were't great, but neither were they very long. Other than those two small hiccups, shit has been fine, great even.

The budget has only gone up on this show. You have to always take the opinions of this forum with a large grain of salt. We've made an art out of nitpicking the fuck out of everything. The fights have never been that great, but other than that, I'm not seeing any budget, quality, production issues at all. There's nothing like this show in TV, production-wise.

I rewatched Season 1 recently. Go back and watch Jaime v Ned, then realise how false your comment is

The budget keeps going up because they keep filming in more locations.

Not to take away from the glory that would be the Clegane boys going toe-to-toe, but how did it end up channeling a team sport like football for CleganeBOWL? It's a trial bycombat. Innocent until proven dead. Two men enter, one man leaves ...

What does that fight scene prove false in my comment? I'll watch that fight again, but I don't recall ever being impressed with the fights on this show. They range from acceptable to shit.

Ghost and the Dragons became minor characters by around this time in the book anyways. Wolf spent most of his time just chilling in Jon's solar because it freaked out Stannis' crew and the dragons were chained up and you had to walk half a mile downstairs to see them anyways.

Completely disagree. This season has been slow paced and Dorne has been a huge letdown. The change to the Sansa storyline was a bad move. Each time the show cuts to Daenerys is tiring now, as she is no longer doing anything. She was better as a roaming conquerer with an army, then living in this pyramid and frankly, doing shit. Arya is equally as tiring to watch now. We get it. She's training to be an assassin, but so far, we are more than halfway through the season and NOTHING has happened. Stannis showing up at the wall was awesome, but since then, we get to see him do....nothing. The Wall has greatly slowed to be so bad that we got excited at seeing Sam get his ass kicked and get laid as a result.

The pacing is one of the major issues with this season.

Personally, Olenna and the high Sparrow have been the one real saving grace.

Seriously, look at this season so far, and its been pretty much a letdown. D&D have been letting the success of the show get to their heads and they are starting to think they are on equal footing with the GRRM when it comes to weaving a good story and developing characters. The first few seasons stayed pretty faithful to the books, but now, we are seeing major deviations and liberties being taken and the quality is now suffering.

I won't argue if you find it boring or don't like the story changes. I'm simply talking from a production quality point of view.

The tangible complaints you have are true in the books right?

The change to Sansa is much better IMO. Before she was in a sterile environment with LF making moves in a place no one gives a shit about (The Vale). Now she's in a hostile environment in a place that everyone cares about (Winterfell). Matching one of the most cared for characters with one of the most sadistic characters who happens to be very entertaining is great.

Daenarys is shit in the books too, but now we have Tyrion to hopefully carry the Mereen episodes and possibly make her less retarded.

Arya's training is exactly like I remember it in the books. It's more personality adjustment and brain washing and less Eye of the Tiger.

Stannis fucked around in the books too, but instead of mucking around for an entire half of a book (or more?) we'll probably get 3 episodes between him leaving and him attacking Winterfell (or being killed before then).

Sam's story was pretty lame from the time Jon was made Lord Commander to when he got to Old Town. Hopefully we can skip the entire ship ride and trip to Bravos. Just get him on Petyr Baelish's magic carpet and ferry him to Old Town!
