Isn't Galavant a new series? The widows all going to a spot has been in the books for I'm sure over a decade. I don't remember if it was an island or not I felt it was just a valley or something. I can't recall exactly when they mention it if that was book 1 or not.

For book readers I think the pre-Robert Baratheon timeline is pretty clear, and the names are known and such; for people who just watch the show week to week, don't read about the show or "study" the backstory, those clues given as to the whole story would be scattered across all the seasons. I know they did say why Oberyn is mad and all, but I think the significance is mainly lost and Oberyn becomes "crazy guy willing to fight the Mountain to save Tyrion" because everyone loves Tyrion. Which is fine, it's just they could have randomly introduced Oberyn and still gotten there without doing Dorne at all for now. It turns out most of the Dorne subplot was a complete waste. Could have just had Oberyn only with no Dorne scenes, and now introduced the Sand Snakes, showed them upset about Oberyn, mad their leader does nothing, they take control and do XYZ and saved a bunch of time they could have spent on non-lulzy scenes from Dorne last season.
Dorne became a pretense to get Jaime out of King's Landing when they opted to go a different direction than the books with him in the Riverlands. They needed him to be someplace other than KL for Cersei crash and burn on her own against the High Sparrow. Once it served it's purpose they shut it down gracelessly.

Yea it was in Book 1 because Dany travels there and Viserys is executed in Vaes Dothrak in Book 1, so 1996?

I know Littlefinger mentioned it to Sansa last season but I wonder how much people know about the whole backstory of Rhaegar/Lyanna Stark if they didn't read the books.

Likely very little even though Stannis also cast a shadow of doubt over Ed bedding a commoner on a whim with an offhand remark at Castle Black. If Jon ends up being a Targaryen it would be a huge reveal for unread.

Which reminds me, we didn't get the Tower of Joy opening to S6 many were hoping for. That would have been a hook indeed.

the theory im hearing about melisandre's going to bed scene, was that she is losing/lost her faith. thoros explained that he lost his faith and then was able to rez. so mel will now be able to rez jon. not my theory, but it sounds about right.

That needs some explanation to show watchers though, or it'd be like wtf

Would have been a nerdgasm for us, for sure.

Yeah and they were already thin on time resetting all of the various storylines from S5.

We've already seen where they want to take Dany. When she ate the horse heart in season 1, it was in front of the Dosh Khaleen. Vaes Dothrak sits on a late in front of a mountain. The Dosh Khaleen live on the lake edge. Basically Dothraki Florida.

There are a lot of things to pick at in the first episode of season 6:

* Davos' motivation
* Jaimie and Cersei's odd interaction
* another unconvincing Sand Snake show of force
* the wtf murder of Trystan on the boat
* the re-use of the Kill the Masters graffiti (still in English)

But the thing that boggles me most is this disconnect from the end of season 5:
Season 5 Finale - Daenerys gets found by Dothraki - YouTube

When Daenerys is found by the Dothraki, there are scores of them circlingjusther. It looks like they know who they have found. Do Dothraki do this for every slave they capture? I think not. I think season 6 was supposed to pick up with something else, and it was changed. How the hell could they not know who she is?
?

She was a white haired woman, something they made a big deal about the whole segment. They have never seen that before.

When the Dothraki, in the middle of nowhere in their lands, finds a white haired woman in a dress by themselves, they take her to the Khal. They might as well have found a unicorn.

Uh he was mad because his sister and her children were killed, very very very mad.

The TV show explained what went down very well. She was married to Rhaegar and when the Targaryens were overthrown she was killed by the Mountain on orders from Tywin Lanister.
Tyron talks about the families bad blood when waiting for the Martells to arrive

Oberon talks about it in his first scene in the brothel.

He talks about it again with olenna

He has a one on one with tywin talking about it and accusing tywin, who blames it on the mountain.

He has the scene with Tyrion someone linked.

Then he recaps it all during the fight.

I might even be missing a few other scenes with other people talking about it in early seasons, like Robert, Ned, Selmy that I sort of remember,

They did plenty of explaining on Oberyn.

My wife doesn't understand shit about this show and that's the one character she ever understood fully his motivations and story.

Not sure how anyone can say otherwise

It probably helps that he was pretty suave and charismatic lol

That was a scene that had me scratch my head. I hope there was a lot of funny outtakes.

Just an awkward line....ok I'm leaving now. Lock the door!
