I think the Nymeria thing was just a setup for Arya realizing she doesn't want to be Arya Stark anymore. It's not her, and never was.

They explained this in the after show thing.

It wasn't nymerias style to be domesticated and that paralleled arya or something.

I think the scene was mostly just fanservice for all the "What about Nymeria???" posts on the internet. I agree I don't think it held some really strong meaning outside of maybe showing that even her childhood wolf doesn't really see her as Arya Stark. But the wolf also didn't rip her throat out so maybe the scene had absolutely no meaning.

I have a sinking feeling this season and next will be a ton of fanservice

Maybe, but was what happened to Nymeria even in doubt? In the books it is said a great dire wolf has been leading a pack. Of all the things to answer "what happened to X" Nymeria isn't really top on my list. Lady Stoneheart,. for one.

And where has Ghost been?

Stoneheart was never on the show. I mean exclusively to TV watchers. And Nymeria was only talked about second-hand in the books so it was never really explained. I think everyone kind of expected Nymeria to play an important role at some point in time. I just assumed she got tossed on the boat with Gendry.

Seriously, I thought Ghost had died and I just forgot about it in the long hiatus. That's a pretty bad fail on the showrunner's part.

I just figured they went in and killed him after unless I missed a scene where someone helped Ghost escape.

That'd be a reasonable thing to do if I were the mutineers, but no such scene was penned. As Royal points out Ghost was explicitly shown in the show.

A lot of things don't really make "sense", e.g. why has nobody taken that priceless Valyrian steel sword away from Jon?

Seeing Lord Snow bleed out was probably so good to Ser Alliser he had to go rub one out immediately afterwards and forgot all about Ghost.

Yea I also was troubled by the writers totally fucking the pig when it comes to Randal Tarly and his stolen Valyrian sword. How was there not a single mention of this? I thoght he was going to mention it when he was having a conversation with Jamie maybe an off handed remark about having to use resources to find his fat traitor son who took the fucking icon of our entire bloodline and ran.

Maybe he didn't want to betray that in public as it would make him seem weak or? I just hope he at least mentions it in the next 2 episodes.

I think Nymeria will make another appearance. She might not have heeled to Arya but I bet either Bran wargs her, or she takes sides in a conflict and helps the Stark cause etc.

Did they even make a point of showing it leaning against the wall in the quarters Sam shares with Gilly last episode? Or has the thing just completely vanished?

Nymeria scene just seemed like fan service, to shut up all the youtubers and reviews talking about how there's only 2 dire wolves left, Ghost and Nymeria. whatever happened to Nymeria? where is she? whats going on with Nymeria? etc.

Instead of just saying "read the books" they gave us a scene so people would shut the fuck up.

we might see her again but I don't feel like she has some huge important role to play later. In the books she's fulfilled her purpose already and is just roaming around with a massive wolf pack killdozing shit. She had no purpose in the show since they decided not to make Arya a Warg and not to do lady stoneheart.

I like the theory that completing all the things she feels that Arya has to do will free her and allow her to become No One.

Why would it just be fan service? It's not like Nymeria is an unlikable figure or something fans wouldn't want to see more of? Why couldn't it just be another loose end HBO is tying up for GRRM?

As much as the writing has suffered lately you have to at least give the writers credit for making some of GRRMs bullshit into tangible, quality on screen narrative. Hardhome, battle of the bastards, Brienne vs The Hound, the development of Bran and his greenseeing, they have nailed some aspects of the story and really salvaged the garbage that was books 4 and 5 and made it their own.

Edit: But at least if we never see Nymeria again Sylas can cover himself in his own glory for having made another prediction!

A significant part of me was actually hoping that pack of wolves would kill Arya. I probably would have pissed myself laughing so hard.
