shepards pie today

browned meat/ s/p/ dash of worcester, 2tbs flour to bind it, put in pan, defrost mixed frozen vegs, mix in same pan. slap on fresh mashed mix with a bit of butter/egg, bake 20mins.

i wanna expand it, anyone got any ideas? would adding heat help? also i've seen some add cheese on top, is that just to crust it up?

sadly the irish pub near me can't do a decent shepards pie, they do make the best (and ugliest) fish and chips... well just fish, the chips are kinda bleh, but it's best flakiest fish fry i've ever had.

No lobster is gross because as lanx said, theyre basically cockroaches.
They share a phylum, not quite equivalent. You can think lobster is gross, that isn't a rationally determinate opinion so it can't be right or wrong. Most people think lobster is delicious. You can thank trains and chefs figuring out it had to be cooked either live or very freshly dead for that.

Lobster is tasty you fucks!

I don't care what they were or what they ate while they were alive. The thing on my plate is tasty.

Anyone have meal prep recipes? Like 3-4 days worth? I usually do brown rice, black beans and chicken sausage but could use something different
Rachel Ray does a show called "Week in a Day" where she does prep/partial cooking of 5 days worth of meals. I do it on Sunday (I normally cut one meal I know I wont like) then more of less reheat during the week then take the leftovers for lunch the next day. It works really well. Alot of the dishes are soups or stew kind of dishes so they reheat really well.

Meh, Rachael Ray does some good stuff. I have seen that show before, she does a lot of stews and stuff. A lot of ingredients I would probably otherwise never use. I guess it became cool to hate on her along with Guy Fieri and whoever else when they became popular, but if you actually try her recipes they are good.

I like Rachael Ray because she's good at instructional cooking; she's a good presenter. And 'her' recipes are good, but it's pretty obvious she's not a chef. She's a decent cook. I also like that she always sounds like she's gargling cum. (I know she had throat surgery, though.)

What I don't like about her and Guy, is that Food Network is constantly pounding their stars down our throats. Bobby Flay, too, but at least that fucker can cook.

I would actually say she's the opposite of that. I'll admit, I haven't watched one of her shows in a quite a long time, but my memory of 30 minute meals is that it was(is?) light on learning and actually somewhat misleading because of how much had to be cut to fit the titular format.

Is it possible that Rachel Ray or Guy Fieri have good recipes once in a while? Sure, but with the dearth of recipes and chefs and tv personalities, it's much easier to dismiss them based on their average. Are you going to comb through the Sandra Lee archives hoping you find something better than kwanzaa cake? Seriously, google it.

Not hating on them because it's "cool". They're annoying personalities. I'll admit that Alton Brown spoiled me. If a show doesn't measure up to Good Eats, I start looking for flaws. Food Network could be 24/7 Chopped and Good Eats, with a dash of Iron Chef(Japan), and that would be a 10x better network than it is now.

Speaking of Good Eats, love the show in general but really didn't like the 'skits'. Loved learning the science of the food, but those hokey characters weren't good. Am I alone?

No, they're definitely annoying. I remembered being put off by them more so early on than later. But now that I think back, a crossdressing fat dutch person just because you have an episode about donuts is pretty annoying. But, we might not have Dr. Krieger without annoying Good Eats characters.

You're totally hating on them to be cool, you're a food hipster. Otherwise why would you even care? You are CLEARLY not the audience for Sandra Lee. Some people don't give a shit about fresh ingredients or whatever, they want food on the table period. Sandra Lee is for those people. And shehas some fine recipes, if you actually go and look. Most of it is shit, but whatever, she isn't for you or me. I would not agree that Rachael Ray is even in the same category, she makes tasty food. So does Guy Fieri. Rachael Ray was never intended to be a sit in for Alton Brown and she has never claimed to be that I know of. But she has a following, she provides a pretty good instructional program for the target audience. She isn't teaching basic technique, she is demonstrating a recipe.

aren't most of the good eats characters, friends and neighbors?

anyway i could only ever follow AB's recipes since they seem like recipes he looked at, made them into AB style and showed us.

versus rachael ray who just seems to google allrecipes and just goes through the motions, it's horrible if you want to learn and replicate, but ok if you want to just be lazy and watch someone cook for 30mins.

sandra lee i could probably follow, that bitch has a lot of practical stuff, but i mean why follow anyone else besides AB?

I have tried several Rachel Ray recipes, and I have had very poor results. Like was said above, a lot of ingredients that are hardly ever used, and I find her recipes quite fussy. This is part of what I really like about chefs like Gordon Ramsay and Alton Brown - they use as few ingredients as possible, and still manage to make very tasty food. The success rate I have with their recipes is also about 100%. Stuff comes out exactly as they say it is going to, which is the opposite of my experience with Rachel Ray. I'm not hating on her, I have other chefs I find I like and trust more.

I once was at a rental cottage that had Rachel Ray pots and pans, and they were probably the nicest pots and pans that I've ever used. Does that count?

Hating on Rachel Ray was cool years ago. I actually brought up this topic to my wife earlier and her initial reaction was "she's still a thing?". I don't see the purpose of show like hers if you don't learn anything from it. If hating people that are annoying and detrimental to learning cooking, then fine, I guess I'm a food hipster. lanx does a good job of reiterating my point.

It's kinda sad that chicken tenders is an example of a good recipe. Might as well give McCheese a cooking show. Did you notice in the comments a lot of people altering the recipe? Ugh, bran cereal as a fried chicken coating?

I know the asian woman on the show was AB's chiropractor. Otherwise, I think everyone else was local actors or people from his crew.

I really just want to bang Rachel Ray, other than that, meh.

The last 6-7 recipes I've tried have turned out pretty badly, so I went back to my man crush Gordon Ramsay and made his Sticky Lemon Chicken and it was fucking outstanding and fairly easy to make. I highly recommend it.

And what the fuck is wrong with chicken tenders as a recipe? Is it fancy? No. Is it hard to make? No. But it probably tastes a million times better than whatever fancy bullshit you cook up with your unpronounceable ingredients and silly cooking techniques. Every god damned time I get dragged to some fancy restaurant in D.C I end up wishing I could just eat some chicken tenders and fries, because they'd taste a hell of a lot better and fill me up. Why the fuck is watching Rachel Ray or Guy Fieri detrimental to learning cooking? Not everyone wants to learn how to perfectly sautee buffalo brains and pig testicles in a white-wine sauce with a hint of warm urine.

You're an emotionless food-hipster robot who can't appreciate good, simple food. You're basically the food equivalent of those stupid bitches who go chomp at the bit to spend $500 on purses from Michael Kors.

*Edit* I bet my cooking show would be popular as fuck, by the way.

The purpose of a show like hers is for one, people like her and relate to her, but that is some housewife shit. For someone like us, she uses ingredients and stuff that I would never even think to use, it can give you ideas. It is whatever you make of it. I don't think she is detrimental to learning cooking at all, I just think that she doesn't offer what you want. Just the concept of 'hey here are some meals that you can cook ahead of time and easily get ready in a short timeframe and have delicious meals during the week' is a pretty unique idea as far as cooking shows go. And pretty worthwhile, too. I mean shit, Bobby Flay isn't teaching me anything by watching him roast poblano peppers for the ten thousandth time either. I wouldn't watch one of Flay's shows and then get upset that I'm not learning technique and shit, that isn't what his shows are.

AB mentioned on his podcast that he basically just used whoever was available for his skits and stuff. I always liked his skits, that was what made his show unique imo, especially in the glut of 'person stands in front of a stove and talks' thing that Food Network has just stuck with for 15 years or however long it has been.

I'll admit that a few were funny, but most were just tedious to me.

I like Giada's Everyday Italian show. It's very simple ingredients and preparation for the most part, plus boobies. Her other show, can't remember the name.. At Home? maybe, she does a bunch of pretentious little bullshit, however, boobies.
