Yum, Bisi! I have no game at that standard.
I did make myself a steak...a bone in strip...ribeye is my usual but it was 13 dollars a pound and the strip was 6 and unusually well-marbled. I didn't do as well as G, but still managed to get a nice sear and keep it med r. Made a greens/spinach salad with orange sections, pecans and vinaigrette. Not bad for solo supper. The dog is happy, he got the bone.

Are you washing it down with a glass full of starch to compliment the meal?

My girlfriend and I went to a cooking class this morning and made a bunch of Macarons and Macaroons. First time I've ever done a cooking class--pretty fun date idea for anyone that hasn't done it.
where did you find such classes?

Several of our local supermarkets do cooking classes. Some couples do them, you can also have your kid's birthday party be something like learning to cook cupcakes and then they get to eat them. Kinda cool.

My instant read thermometer broke, so I've been looking at getting a Thermapen. Everywhere I read online though, they're saying it's $100, but Amazon has them for $180 :-/

I got a thermapen 2 years ago for Christmas and I don't know how I ever lived without it. Would never go back to any of the pieces of junk I used to use.

They sell butane tanks at target or Walmart in the camping section. You don't have to hunt for them or order off amazon.
I couldn't find them at the Target or the regular supermarkets by me. I didn't check WalMart. I think someone in this thread suggested Asian supermarkets and there I found them.

Is there some benefit to those weenie little butane culinary torches over something like this?

But I can go straight from plumbing to gourmet excellence with my large torch. It's okay, Soy. We understand you're not used to dealing with large tools.

I have petite hands.

I wasn't hating on the big torch. He asked if there was any benefit to the small one!

Made some badass home made chicken & noodle soup over the weekend.

Took a basic recipe, but I used a Costco Rotisserie chicken to make my home made broth. I cut off all the meat I was going to use for the soup (breasts, legs, thighs) and then threw the rest of the carcass into the pot for the broth. Turned out incredible, super strong flavor.

Followed this recipe:
Chicken and Noodle Soup Recipe | Taste of Home

The only difference being not cooking my entire chicken in the broth, pulling off the meat first and then just cooking the carcass.

Amazing though, best chicken & noodle soup I've ever had.

Nice. I've done chicken soup a few times in the last few montsh, doing the same thing(using rotisserie chickens from BJ's). Really, really good.

I've been making the stock with my slow cooker. I toss a couple carcasses in with carrots, celery, onion and a bay leaf. Leave that sucker on for like 36 hours. Then I throw it all in a pot and reduce it for about 90 minutes. I don't usually salt/season it until I'm putting it into the final recipe.

I wont lie, I use the same torch for plumbing and creme brulee. It's a very slightly higher investment to start, but its a far better tool in general, because they generally have a more intense heat and bigger flame, and that's the whole point of using a damn torch.

Plus you can get propane cylinders at Walmart/Target or any hardware or outdoor store.
