^^^Good example of the internet giving people voices that don't deserve it. What's the white shit on top? You literally cannot infuse with a liquid. That's a guinness reduction if anything. Guinness and chocolate are both bitter. In a dish like this(high in sugar), pick one, not both.

The fork is on the wrong side.

Beer reduction is the most bitter thing you can imagine. I do not want to try that. People just think beer is cool so they put it in stuff that makes it worse. Ditto for whiskey. I like both beer and whiskey but have never cooked anything with either of them that I thought was improved by them. Congrats on simultaneously ruining your beer and your food.

Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one. Someone showed me the picture I posted above, thinking it looked like the greatest meal ever. I thought It looked like crap.

And beer can make some pretty good bread.

Beer batter? IDK, it isn't bad, but when it come to battering something tempura-style, I think other fizzy drinks do it better.

Yeah, granted it's an effective way to get some air into your dough. I don't think beer batter or bread are really about the flavor of the beer though. I've tried a number of recipes that use beer or whiskey in sauces or reductions though, and it seems like either there is not enough in there that you can really taste it, or you can taste it and it tastes revolting.

I love beer-batter pancakes, and yes there is plenty of beer flavor there. Also love brats cooked in beer, although not for the brats themselves because I doubt they absorb much or any beer flavoring, but the onions I cook in the beer-n-brat juices after are amazing.

I've done marinades with whiskey and beer, really good shit. My wife bought me a whole cookbook with beer recipes but I haven't done anything from it yet.

Rum is delicious cooked into various things. Ditto for wine.

As far as the baked beans and marinades and beer can chicken and shit, that falls into my category of "doesn't really taste like bourbon/beer and you wouldn't miss it if it was gone". That "Jack Daniels Grill" bullshit at Applebee's or whichever chain does that has no whiskey flavor in any of the stuff they make with it and it's all just about branding.

I have done the onions and brats in beer before and personally I thought they would be better in water or chicken stock or something but of course YMMV. It's not bad if you do it in Bud Light or something like that, but I did it once with a hoppy, dark beer and I found the onions to be inedible.

To back to the chili question from earlier, here's what I do and it's generally a massive hit.

Take any generic beef chili recipe you would find online, and alter it by doing the following:

Take a package of bacon, cut it up into roughly 1-inch chunks, and cook it in the bottom of the pot to start, then all the onions and peppers are saute'd in the bacon grease for flavor, then drain excess grease, add 1 bottle of beer of choice(I go with guinness), let that simmer for a bit with the veggies & bacon, then throw in all your beans, tomatoes, and the rest of the browned meat (I go half beef, half hot italian sausage)

Also instead of using all diced/crushed tomatos, I use about 1/3 diced, 1/3 ro-tel, and a jar of my favorite salsa
