I think it's more likely that most people just overcook their brussel sprouts. Americans have a terrible history of cooking greens(thanks Britain). Cook them too long and they release bitter compounds, that's what BrutulTM was referring to. The same process needed to break down cell walls and release nutrients will also bite the cook if applied too long. Quick or dry methods are what you want. I prefer dry if you have the time. Roasted green veggies taste really good and rarely need anything besides some salt and pepper.

I was not a fan of brussel sprouts until about 2 years ago, when I cooked them for myself. My mother's brussel sprouts were typical Dutch food - cooked to mush and mixed in with the over cooked potatoes. gross. Now I make them fairly regularly, especially as they are super easy to grow. Sauteed with a little hot oil is good. I've done them once with a light batter, was okay. But once I did them in goose fat and sprinkled almonds over them. Dang.

Everytime I go to my favorite bar, I have to get the brussel sprouts (with bacon and in a beer sauce). They've even started making them for me at lunch even though they aren't on the menu. I'd murder for a recipe similar to their's.

That chicken came out perfectly. I cooked it on low for 7 hours. Didn't even need to cut it, it just fell right off the bone.

At $1.69/lb that chicken seems like an easy, economical, and delicious way to get your protein in. I need to measure the consumable meat pulled off the chicken next time to see how much I'm actually getting.

Going to attempt the carnitas tonight, will report back with my findings!

I'm going to make biscuits this weekend, and I'll probably try 3-4 batches to make sure I understand the recipe(s) and get some experience with them.
Also I'm going to do that carnitas thing. How are they for leftovers?

SO GOOD
I crisp them up in a pan before packing my lunch in the morning, no time for the broiler. It works really well, really good on some salad or in tacos or whatever.

Maybe Chaos could start listing some of the more notable recipes from this thread in the original post?
I can do that. Just point out which recipes you guys want up there. I'll put the carnitas and chicken ones for now.
