Oooooooooooh this actually looks good. I mean, I love Tom Hanks, but he is almost irrelevant to the destroyer escort/submarine warfare that we could see in this movie. This could be to ocean warfare what Fury was to tank warfare. That tank stuff was relatively brief in Fury (and the last stand scene too long and retarded) but it was still awesome.

Also, I've always had serious wood for Elizabeth Shue. Unfortunately, she looks like she's chained smoked most of her life, because her face has seriously wrinkled up, hard. But I fondly remember her from the era of Leaving Las Vegas.

watched this last night, it was really good.
Could've used a touch more complexity, felt a bit too short, but it was a great ride.

Out in the usual places and it's pretty good. It has a really great relentless pace to it. It's like a good sub movie but on the surface for a change.

Cool movie. I really liked the pacing of everything. If they fleshed everything out a little more and actually used models instead of the chinese cgi it would be in the epic category along side the great ww2 movies.

At least some of the CGI was done by 3d scanning real ships. The Dicky was from a scan of the HMCS Sackville which is a museum ship moored at the Halifax waterfront

This just means "complete fiction during WW2, but at least we get the date right" at this point.

Thought this was okay. Wasn’t a fan of the pacing. Too much “problem happens, solve problem, get Tom Hanks a new piece of clothing, fade to black break, problem happens”. I think this particular subject matter would have made an awesome thriller movie, though. Enemy you can’t see hunting you, allies getting picked off out of nowhere, the friendly-fire caused by panic and shit visibility etc. This movie definitely had some good moments but the pacing, not really being able to invest in any of the characters, and Tom Hanks’ character getting a little pander—y at times took it down a notch or two for me.

The book it is adapted from was written with a theme of the constant pressure the screens were under to protect the convoys, and I think the movie focused on that element as well. I really liked that it didn't focus on characters, though I would have liked a bit more focus on just how green the captain and much of the crew were.
