Oh. Well, I think I'll go build a new PC then. It's fun. And it's been a while.

Think I will go with a 6800k with 16gb DDR4, use my old drives since those are sweet, same case, same case fans, new CPU Cooler Master, and a 1070 GTX. Or... I can just upgrade my 770 GTX to a 1070, with my old i52500k and probably get the same results because nothing is CPU based any longer unless I am running a bunch of video editing programs or something.

With that said, how do companies like Alienware stay in business. I can build my own super computer for $1400. Alienware charges 3800.

A lot of people have money and don't know any better. Certainly if I was a moron I would buy an Alienware. People also believe they're getting something you can't get when you build your own. People that own Alienwares are pretty much considered morons. If you have the laptops I guess you're less of a moron because you can't build those, but still retarded because alienware.

All this said there are plenty of improvements from a 2nd gen i5 to a 6th gen i5. Maybe the frequencies haven't gone up much, but it's not like Intel just sat on their asses pumping out cards. Will you see a noticeable improvement in gaming? I have no idea.

Yeah, never got Alienware, even if your scared to build your own for whatever reason--plenty of shops still do a lot better for cheaper. AVAdirect has amazing quality and only about a 10-15% mark up over individual parts. For any family far from me? I have them do a build through them if they won't take the plunge and just watch a youtube video to assemble their own system. (Most of the time they just like to have the warranty.) Even their wire management is better than Alienware; and you get to pick the brand name of all your parts on the build, so they aren't giving you shit components. Alienware is such a massive rip off, it's really amazing.

That's actually closer to the truth of the matter. A lot of companies and people are calling Intel out for exactly this, especially lately. They really have been sitting on their hands for years.

So there is no reason as to why I would want to upgrade my I5 2500k CPU to the 6800k and build a new PC if it is strictly used for gaming. Just upgrade my 770 GTX to a 1070GTX and I am golden. Which is why I always question when I see comments stating "Oh boy your CPU is going to be bottlenecked..." I mean seriously. Who drives this type of slander.

The 2nd gen intels are still top tier CPUs, does your motherboard have all the features you need? Then you're probably fine.

Yeah. USB 3.0, GUI for Config, easy OC to 4.5 on air cooling. Witcher 3 on PC was hitting around 25-30 FPS on max settings though on a 1200p display with a 770 GTX, so the 1070 upgrade probably makes a lot of sense and I should be all good again. Already running everything on a 512gb SSD with 3 Tb of mechanical drives for storage.

Yeah my i7 is on the bottom of my "to be upgraded" list. Honestly since I ripped out my HDD for a SSD I'll probably just upgrade my GFX card and my computer will be back to being beast tier like when I first got it.

Turns out the i7s just don't age.

I know a guy who's playing the latest stuff on high quality levels on a I think it was a 960 from 2009.

Pretty much(though first generaiton were all i7, intel didnt become dickwads until later generations). Only reason I replaced my i7 920 was due to the motherboard dying, for a second time. With X58 boards being discontinued it was just as cheap to buy a new cpu+mobo than a 3-4 year old x58 board.

I also preordered the FTW, but from Amazon. Looks like the release date is sometime around June 14th. If you look over atNVIDIAthere's a bunch of people claiming the sky is falling because Amazon is giving an estimate of July 14th, but that's because Amazon will give a super late estimate so that they don't look bad.

For this launch I redid all of my fans, power supplies, and cleaned out my case. However I decided to keep my i7 2700k, there really isn't much reason to upgrade it compared the video card so I'll wait until next year.
