So Gamescom is going to be going on this weekend, do we have anyone on the boards that is going to be covering the HoT announcements?

I might be the only one but I am really wanting to play a staff monk (thief)

They will show us the 3 new legendary today on PoI. The guy that did the mesmer and necro spec just finished the warrior.

My bet is the warrior use torch to light himself in fire while in berserker mode and summon fiery weapons.

From a first glance I'm not too impressed with the reaper, I guess necro will never be a good class in PvE. It's flashy and looks cool if you're into that kind of aesthetic but it does nothing for how condition damage works on the necro and the greatsword is ok against weak trash but I don't see how it should be able to compete against bosses if you compare it to the warriors greatsword.

Necro is still meta in WvW and really strong in PvP so unless you care alot about high end PvE in Guild Wars 2 there's no need to get worried, unless Chronomancer wells get buffed. Elite specs are more like "change your gameplay while playing your main character" stuff. Melee necros, ranged Guardians, we're gonna have to wait until proper release to figure out stuff.

Right now chronomancer is way too powerful as it is right now. The elite spec will be tuned down since they stated that normal build should be able to fight them.

Shiro revenant seems pretty well balanced. I fought a few of them and the fight were very fun as a full zerk warr VS shiro revenants. I was a bit surprised from all the zapping around.

From what I have read chrono is OP, reaper is pretty decent and haven't seen anything positive for the other elite spec.

From looking at the schedule I thought there was going to be a big announcement Saturday at Gamescom, only thing I saw was the PVP announcement. Is this what they were talking about?

Lame, when they said a big announcement concerning the longevity of the game, I assumed it meant improving the PVE system.

So did anyone play the beta weekend? What did you get to play and does it shed a good light on the expansion?

Dragonhunter and tempest seem underwhelming, the dragonhunter was just a very poorly received elite in general and tempests problem is the absolute insane strength of the elementalist in EVERY single game mode. It is hard to get excited when your class is pretty much OP already.
Reaper is flashy and kinda fun, but just not very good. As always a really strong class, probably the absolute best at it right now. Haven't played mesmer at all, but most people I've talked to seem to agree that it is overpowered at the moment.

The zone you could play in was very restricted so it's hard to judge the quality of the overworld maps. Enemy design is somewhat interesting, the whole growth/plant thing gives them some freedom to introduce more freakish looking designs, there's also dinosaurs and that is always cool. Some enemies shout and curse at you.

In terms of combat, some enemies are absolutely deadly if you're solo, most events on the other hand though seems still as zergy as ever. Then again, we haven't really seen the "big" enemies of the expansion, no Tequatl style fight yet and we still don't know what the challenging group content is supposed to be.

Did you get a general idea of zone size? My main concern is that it'll be fairly small and not really worth the money. I'll buy it for sure but I'm kinda expecting to shell out $50 for what amounts to a new spec and roughly as much content as silverwastes + dry top delivered (which is fine for free updates but a pitiful amount for an expansion).

Impossible to tell really as we've only seen parts of this one zone so far. There was a wooden potatoes video today where he talked about datamined zones that would indicate there's only 4 of them. If that is actually true nobody knows, there very well might be zones that are in development but not part of the client at the moment.
There's also the stuff around guild halls where you have to fight/conquer the map or something first, then there's the pretty big new WvW map and whatever the group content is supposed to be. So maybe some sort of new dungeon/actual raid.

Hah, yeah, that's how I feel. I don't need a new spec to pwn newbs. I mean, I'm basically stuck with Arcane and Water anyway, so this just gives me yet another mediocre option for 3rd place?

I've been playing pretty casually, just poking around and enjoying the graphics etc etc. Level 52 now. Aside from doing the 3/3 daily and whatever world bosses I feel like making it to, are there other things I could add to my "daily routine" that would aid me when 80? PVE-only at the moment.

Start mapping zones.
Yea, I'm aware of that. I've seen people referencing "use a 53 to open bags". My vague understanding is this has to do with some loot bag reward being tied to the level of the opening character? Anyone able to shed some light on this?
