HL2 was definitely not worse than HL1. It had a few slog stretches but the peaks were very high.

The episodes were better paced.

Yeah it's literally some kind of bizarro world.

"HL2 was woke!" say the Putin-loving cowards.
That really reads like Chris just being bad at sarcasm/satire to me but you did a fantastic job of reminding everyone not to make you feel like your status as the champion of stupidest posts in the sub-forum was being threatened.

Lotta trolls in here, hl2 was absolutely groundbreaking obviously in ways everyone forgot. Sure the city environs were kinda bland/stark but that was also kind of thematically the point, but yes black mesa was a cooler and more focused backdrop, but hl2 introduced so many things we just take for granted now like the rag dolling and physics bullshit, the gravity gun was cool as fuck and inspired a ton of things, the team stuff was meh to me but definitely inspired other things. The music was spot on. Voice acting way above the industry standard at the time and really set a new bar. The scope of the game was also just massive, there were so many memorable set pieces and everything just oozed with polish and was so atmospheric . Feel like I could go on and on. Was an absolute genre defining masterpiece and one of the best games of all time.

None of those things were groundbreaking HL2 inventions. Ragdoll physics had been around since around the time of HL1. The gravity gun was a gimmick way to force feed random puzzle bullshit into the game. The production value was high, but that's not interesting.

It was absolutely a game of all time, I'll give you that. It just also happened to be pretty mid in retrospect. I didn't really care for it when it came out, and I look back on it even worse today. When I compare the fact that HL1 took over like a decade of my life with mods and people using the engine, vs source which had zero impact on anything after i finished playing HL2 campaign, that's a huge gap.

HL2 was a great game but the lack of episode 3 and cliffhanger really did it no favors
It has not aged as well as HL1 has and HL1 is clearly the superior title

Calling HL2 woke is cringe as shit though

For HL3 ever to live up to the hype it needs to have Sekiro difficulty, Baldur's Gate 3 gameplay options, Witcher 3 story telling, Korean gatcha character visuals all rolled into one

When was the last time someone made a linear FPS campaign that was actually good? (I did not particularly like Doom Eternal, really liked Doom 2016 but didn't love it)

See, that's what I want from an FPS game right now. 6-10 hours of non-stop set pieces that are actually good.

You know, like Halo games used to be. There were points in the Destiny campaigns that kinda captured it.

way to fall for a chris troll
Ding ding ding!

I don't troll very often, but this thread is so utterly retarded that I thought that the usual people would post the opposite of what I say and leap to HL2's defence.

Obviously HL2 is one of the best games of all time, even compared to HL1, calling it "mid" is pure brain damage.
