Myth is a completely different genre and style of video game. Cool stuff, but I don't think the graphics were the real technical prowess that Halo succeeded at anyways. Half-Life is probably the one thing that could be praised for FPS before it, I'll give you that, at least when it comes to making them more sophisticated. Still, compared to their previous FPS efforts I always felt like Halo was a big leap forward, and it was definitely one of the games that helped usher in more sophisticated AI for the genre as well.

easily having 16 player games was the big driver for that game. Tech was very crude back then, spending hours trying to get one guys pc to connect at a lan party was a huge pain in the ass back then. Xbox made it super easy, just bring a heavy ass tv and controllers and let’s rock.

Maybe I'm just a jaded old hater cause Counter-Strike had already been out for 2 years by the time Halo hit the market, with Half-Life itself being even longer. I know LAN was the big draw for Halo, I was a sophomore in high school when it came out so we had a bunch of drunken LAN parties but good lord I could NOT stand that original Xbox controller.

Halo was nuts when it came out. A flagship game with an original IP. The world was fucking amazing. The ring itself looked like nothing else at that time. You had wiggle room on a lot of the levels to explore and goof a bit which nearly no game had. The Warthog was fucking epic. The music was S tier. The multiplayer pvp was like Perfect Dark except not shit. Goofy weapons, different weapons, game modes with vehicles, and movement mattered (not as much as Quake, but infinitely more than Counter Strike). Halo was nothing like Counter Strike outside of shooting guns. Quake was closer to it and I'd say Reach actually tried to get closer to Quake, but again, the graphics combined with the fluidity of the game at the time it released was unlike anything else.

Wasnt halo also the first game that had aim assist? I remember reading that somewhere but not sure. If so it basically revolutionized shooters on console.

- "Struggled" with guns in Halo. Works on a FPS game. I wonder what comes first - the players enjoyment, or his personal "struggle"?

I would be hard-pressed to ironically come up with a worse person for the job.

I knew Microsoft was an inept company, but seriously? That's the type of shit that should be grounds for automatic firing because it's a complete contradiction to the entire purpose of his job. California is in dire need of at least a pair of nukes for course correction.

Yeah It's like looking back you could see the talent they had at Bungie back then, but as an FPS it honestly wasn't anything special to play. Sort of average for the time with it's levels that can be hard to navigate. It's amazing how much that genre advanced by 98-early 00's.
