Did my last chemo one year ago today. Feels good, that day was the absolute worst of them all of course. Probably the worst day of the entire experience. I get shivers thinking about it.

Still cancer free as far as I know.

Headed to a GI doc tomorrow for a lingering lower left abdominal pain. Back in July I had a colonoscopy as a followup to the previous year's colonoscopy. The first one was for rectal bleeding which was almost guaranteed to be hemorrhoids (I'm 31). Rectal bleeding makes your paranoid as fuck though. Anyways, 1 benign polyp removed during the colonoscopy. Doctor thought it was large for my age so recommended another one a year later. Talking to my PCP after the fact he basically stated that I really shouldn't have had a follow up one done, and that the GI specialist was probably just trying to cover his ass. Either way, I've had lingering abdominal pain that is very dull and tender when I push on my belt line. It's most noticeable when I sit at my desk all day or when I lay down at night (I am overweight so it's probably my belly pushing down on it via gravity). After the colonoscopy was clear my doc ordered an abdominal CT and ultrasound. Both came back fine. That didn't stop me from being paranoid though. Basically the last 5 months I've been paranoid that I have cancer or something. There's surprisingly very little information on the internet for lower left abdominal pain for men. It's frustrating as fuck. I keep telling myself that if a CT scan, ultrasound (while straining to check for hernia), and colonoscopy came back clean, I have no idea how it could be cancer still. My doctor thinks it's a pinched nerve due to being overweight and essentially having my beltline dig into my abdomen from sitting all day. It's called inguinal neuralgia however there's not much out there as far as info goes, and he could just be pulling it out of his ass. Most of the causes look related to having nerve trauma, surgery, etc. in the area. Hopefully a visit to the GI doc tomorrow will calm me down.

It is a good feeling and one that will hopefully continue. Grats

re: porkchop

If I were in that situation and the scan, ultrasound, AND colonoscopy came back clear I'd definitely feel better and less worried while trying to find out wtf is going on.

I've noticed a tendency of overweight people to say the doctor was pulling it out of their ass when they say the problem is likely related to them being overweight.

Has anyone had post nasal drip? The doctor has given me some nasal spray, but it only clears it up for a few hours. Is there a surgery for this shit?

GOD I am falling apart. High blood pressure, aches, pains, PND headaches. Plus I'm fat!

Well everyone has a post nasal drip. Key is finding whats causing your sinus' to create excess fluids. Most likely its an allergy and probably seasonal. A good 24 hour allergy medication can help. Keep in mind that you have to rotate allergy medications as they will become in effective after an extended period of time.

I used to have pretty continual sinus congestion/drip issues. Caused by rhinitis/allergies. Doctor gave me a prescription for Flonase, which is a corticosteroid I believe. It takes a week or two to kick in, but after awhile most of my nose/sinus issues went away. And I became way the fuck less sensitive to stuff that would normally cause me allergies (animals, pollens, etc). I was on it pretty steady for a few years, two shots in each nostril in the morning (I think the prescription actually said to do it twice a day, but I just did it once to stretch out the time between refills).

It actually got to the point where I have stopped using it now.

You ain't fat.
LOL...I'm 300 pounds @ 6'3". That's pretty fat. My diet is absolute shit. Box of fruity pebbles a night is killing me.

I'm 6'3" and 225 and feel morbidly obese, but I don't know how built you are

New meds have only dropped my blood sugar into the 180 range while fasting. I think being off the meds fucked me up permanently.

Im on 1000mg x2 metformin daily and 2mg glimepiride, really hoping I didn't do such bad damage that meds aren't going to work for me.

Shit is scary.

Sucks getting old. Physically and mentally. The physical part I honestly believe you can over come as long as you remain not just reasonably active, but gym active.

The mental part scares me more so. One grandad had dementia. Other now coming down what looks like Alzheimer's.

I'm going to buy a Corvette.

Yeah I really need to get back into the gym. Sucks driving from Somerset -> Cambridge then Cambridge -> Somerset everyday, killing me in many ways but also leaving me with no free time at all. Plus the kid is 8 months old so he's getting really active.

Irritable bowel. I've heard from some with that condition that it can take weeks to weed out individual triggers so it can be difficult to narrow down without some serious dedication to what you eat. Eliminating many triggers for several weeks and seeing if the symptoms subside. Once that happens, adding things back one by one very minimally and working up to larger amounts one at a time. Once you figure out the triggers you should be able to manage it easily. Assuming that is what is bothering you.

Friend of mine used to eat anything and everything. Then once 40 rolled around that changed and had to cut out most fiber that wasn't some forms of salads. I don't recall the exact thing but that was what was getting him. I do remember grapes tore him up as well. Nuts were mostly fine. Alcohol was fine. Fiber bars and such were a no no though.

Thanks for the input bud. That's what the GI doc thought it could be too. I had originally ruled that out as a cause because one of the main symptoms is constipation, diarrhea, or alternation of the two. My stools are as consistent and regular as soft serve ice cream due to the soluble fiber supplement and stool softeners that I take daily. Apparently there's also a part of IDB that is not triggered by foods but can be caused by your brain/nerves.

So, to preface this, I'm 33 years old, 5'6, 240lbs.

Back on the 20th, had a burst of pain in my left side. Thought it was a kidney stone (Had one 4 years ago, haven't had any since). But, took some aspirin and pain went away and nothing after that.

Then, Christmas Eve night, just finished dinner and got hit with a significant amount of nausea, left side abdominal pain and my heart racing, almost like a panic attack. Thought it was the stone again, so was drinking lots of fluids. Over the next 3 days kept getting waves of nausea, heart racing, and some abdominal discomfort. Finally was able to get into a Walk In clinic on Sunday. They did urine and blood tests, which both came back fine. Nurse practitioner thinks its diverticulitis, prescribed some antibiotics for a week with a follow up visit. Was going to try a CT scan to be sure but insurance apparently doesn't cover much if a urgent care clinic does it.

Really hoping the antibiotics work, because internal pain/discomfort like this sucks. Can't seem to get comfortable or relax since I end up focusing on it when I do. Its not severe pain, which I think is worse since its just enough to fuck with me without it being severe enough to know for sure whats going on.

Reading up on diverticulitis, I know i could stand to lose weight (I haven't gotten any bigger over the past few years, but i also haven't lost any weight) and I am working on drinking more water, but trying to figure out how to get more fiber is what I'm not sure about. I normally do oatmeal/cereal for breakfast, and I started about a month ago to eat salads for lunches. I could work on eating more whole wheats, but would a fiber supplement help better?

I think after the checkup I may end up seeing a GI doctor anyway, to at least get some more info and such. Just wondering if others have gone through things like this.

Get more fiber, use a supplement if you need to, Kuriin always has one he recommends, and get a colonoscopy. I know your only 33, but for that reason alone, why chance it?
