Biggest bullshit Arena story I've had today was me being at two health, have lethal next turn; Mage topdecks Unstable Portal, gets a Leper Gnome and pings it for lethal. It's a good thing I have plenty of beer in the fridge; I think I'll go drink the pain away.
The best part about this is that you'd normally be really pissed to get a leper gnome from an unstable portal.

Naxx is probably the best thing you can buy. Don't punish yourself trying to beat it on Heroic unless you like a challenge, the only reward is a card back. My advice is always to do arena when you're starting out. If you make it to 3 wins it is identical in value to buying a pack, plus you got to play the game and learn things.
Seconded, all the way.

The thing I don't get that is really starting to piss me off is as follows. I'm playing ladder around ranks 17-18 and keep running into all these people with multiple legenderies... Dr. Boom, Rag, some knight that killed my taunt minion, etc. This isn't rare. Most people I go against have multiple Legendaries. Shouldn't these people be higher in the ladder? I don't get it. I would have thought most people with all these legendaries and flavor-of-the-month decks would be higher than rank 18 instead of crushing my basic deck by like turn 8.

That's the beauty of aggro decks for beginners (aside from most of them being cheap to craft). You've either won before turn 8 or you're dead.

Right, need some newbie 'What's next?' advice? I just completed grinding the basic stuff (all cards, all wins on Expert). So, do I buy Naxx or do I just keep grinding dailies on the ladder?
I have 550g .. burn it on Classic packs or use it for something else?
Tucobucks given for good advice

I've always spent my gold on Arena. Even with 0 wins you get a pack. 100g for just a pack, or 150g for an arena run. For 50gold extra you get
- Fun of picking a deck with a random list that will most likely include cards you don't have (especially when just starting)
- Play vs decks that won't be of the standard tryhard internet meta
- Possibility of winning enough matches to where you can get multiple packs, several hundred gold and lots of dust worth far more than 50g.

Until you have enough of the standard cards, ranked can be painful. This season the internet meta decks have spread all the way to the 20s. Can watch Forsen, Amaz and Trump play at the legendary level, and face the same decks when you are just starting now.

Haha Forsen is still up and streaming. He was already drinking the last time I checked in seven hours ago.

Ya the Arena can be frustrating as fuck. But finally something either clicked and all the streams and guides I've consumed are finally sinking in or I'm just on the right side of the RNG. 7-3 this afternoon and have a 6-1 run going on my kiddo's account. Trump and Kripp seem to be the best arena streams that I've seen.

Jesus Christ if they don't nerf either Undertaker or Imp-losion or both I might actually quit the game.

Or just play nothing but Zoo.

I'm surprised there hasn't been a nerf to anything yet. Maybe this week's maintenance.

I laugh too much at Frodan and Reynad casting. Half the shit isn't even that funny, but I just can't stop laughing.

I am revitalized!

Well, I'm an old Control kinda guy (MtG) and have enjoyed my variations of Handlock and CntWar and so on for quite a while. I did a Mur deck way back when but that was more fucking around as I had the cards than anything. Did lots of Priest and Pally shit too but never loved any of them really.

So, I make a Cancer Rog deck (I sub a bit, +BGH and Bomb for giggles) and holy shit is that fun! I play it while watching football or whatever and just coast. Handlock or mill is still my touchstone but nothing is more fun that the salty reaction from a perfect Cancer opening. Been on the other side enough to enjoy it even more!

I got to beat the shit out of Imaqtpie(LOL player) once in arena. I wouldn't know if I played any streamers of Hearthstone other than Trump or Kripp because I can't stand watching it.

Todays random arena gayness was a mage with the 4 random damage spell hitting the one creature it had to out of my four followed by me still having lethal with two soulfires in my hand only when I cast the first one it randomly picked the second one out of my hand. So that's a 25% chance followed by a 50% chance. I only play every few days to clear my quests but my lasting impression on how to improve each time is like 5% play differently and 95% become luckier. I'm actually adjusting my play to make what I feel are statistically inferior plays that may just win you the game rather than drag it out until they gay you. So for example if I can drop a mad bomber and get lucky with it and get a massive board edge I may do that rather than just playing "correctly" and pushing a more stable advantage. In my view generally a 10% chance to instantly win the game is not worth a 60% chance to get behind, but I feel like in Hearthstone it now absolutely is. The longer you persist in trying to incrementally crush someone with consistently superior play the more opportunities you are giving the game system to sodomize you with randomness.

Really thinking about just switching to ranked entirely. How do you guys deal with the rock/paper/scissors aspect of the meta? I always liked best two out of three with a sideboard in MTG but from what I understand of the meta in this game it's really just about picking something good against most of the field and not running into bad matchups. Is that accurate?

I'm far from pro but my strategy is to play a class with few hard counters and a deck that does well vs rush decks. As for the rng nature of the game, you can't do away with it, but you can limit it. I try to limit rng to 50/50 where even if I miss i still make board pressure. My deck is designed to play safely and limit yolo plays. Works well and keeps me sane.

That is my impression as well, individual games can vary a lot, thanks to deck sizes and card limits. Sure you can mitigate that over several games with good decisions, but sometimes you would lose even if you saw all the cards in your opponent's hand. I'm not sure what they can do about it in the current system, sideboards are not very elegant solution, maybe finally adopt a tournament system ? Right now you get a very casual experience, where even Timmy the retard can beat somebody. On the other hand, MtG can still fuck you over with lands, but I feel like it's way less likely thanks to all the non-basics and other mana sources.

Dailies all week, pre-lunch arena runs on the weekend, stay away from the game otherwise. Constructed is just a clusterfuck of control warriors and priests at all ranks taking their sweet fucking time to play. I don't think Blizzard designed the ranking system for longterm growth. How do you combat the playerbase getting better over time(mostly in cards but also experience) but the players at the top not really dropping out due to how short a season is?

I just went 11-3 with a Rogue that had 5 Assassinates. Haha I thought it'd be overkill and they'd fuck me over, but I wanted to try it out plus my other picks were always shit. Had one disconnect on a sure win and then the last game was the worst opening hand ever (ironically, no Assassinates). 2 Ravenholdt Assassins and a Cold Blood won me a shit ton of games.

Also, wanna blow somethin' up? 24 damage from the Madder Bombers alone. +12 potential from Brewmasters and another +24 potential with Medivh and then there's Time Rewinder, and I haven't even finished picking yet. Duplicate here I come, bahaha.

Edit: Just cast it 4 turns in a row, Time Rewinder + Brewmaster hahahaha. Shit would make me sooooo mad to lose against. This game is so dumb.

The fact that you rarely see Zoo past after rank 5 and the amount of hunter also decreased as well shows that you don't need to nerf undertaker or Implosion.
