No, it is not mitigated, at least not to the extent you are saying. Outplaying your opponent means making more proper decisions than he does. If you have superior skill the more randomness you add to the equation the easier it is for him to overcome that skill disparity. Blizzard has taken a concept that already had inherent randomness(a CCG) and has taken it over the fucking moon. If it wasn't for the ease of play, the fact it costs me nothing, and the fact that Wizards of the Coast can't put out a functional client I wouldn't touch this piece of shit. Every single game I play just further reinforces that. I hadn't played MTG in a decade and this scratched that itch that I didn't even know I had, but now it's getting beyond the point of being worth it. I get the urge to play, log in, and as soon as something completely retarded happens I just quit the client before the arena run is even over. Making in depth strategic evaluations have their first step start with "well, if this spell that does 3-6 damage does ANYTHING but 3 damage this is the proper play, but if it does 3 then I'm making a terrible mistake and I have no way of finding out until I cast it" it nullifies the game from being something I can take seriously. There's no point in thinking everything out when there are four branching steps that are utterly left in the hand of RNG. Not only that, but you have to play these bullshit cards because they are the most powerful ones, and your random shitty opponent will be playing them and being joyous knowing even though they fail at rudimentary math they can win far more than they should just because the game is designed to reward random asinine decisions.
In fact, the only time this game really is fun is when circumstances put you in the position of being the unskilled fuckwad who lucker dogs into an unwarranted victory. Then you can be gleeful knowing the other person is feeling pain and anger and that you, the lucky fuck, have by the whims of fate shat in their cheerios.
Fuck it, fuck it right in the ass. Anyone who views this as a legitimately competitive video game is a complete fuckstick.
