Ya he was 8 when I stepped out for an hour and came back and he was in the 200's. The more I watch and see how big the swings are the more respect I have for those guys that can finish up at the top. Was watching Strifecro a couple nights ago and he was at 4 and doing a good job maintaining a top 20 rank, fell asleep and he was back in the 200's. And for those that do it with control decks that see every card most matches....fuck.

Is there any better feeling than the one where you're playing a Hunter, take firm control of the board and the emote "Well fought. I concede." pops up? I won't say it's better than sex. But it's close.

Oh I meant to comment on this earlier too. I feel the same way littles, I got most of my classic collection doing arena averaging probably ~6 wins, but I haven't had any "luck" with arena since gvg came out. Really can't be arsed to grind arena anymore, so besides maybe completing a 60g class quest I've given up on arena and I'm just going to buy packs w/ gold.
No idea why but my win rate has gone up since GvG. I just went 9-3 with a Mage that had 4 Madder Bombers as a joke, the day before a Rogue with 5 Assassinates. Maybe I'm just getting lucky, but my average went from 6.60ish before GvG to about 7.20. A lot more 10+ runs nowadays. I'm at 1540 arena wins, for whatever that stat is worth. I've been gaining gold steadily over the last couple weeks.

Is there another decent version of a Hobgoblin deck that isn't Druid? Druid is my favorite class, but I am bored of all the decent unique decks being Druid. Edit: Made a Hobmechwarrior in about 10 seconds. 2-0 so far against cancer haha, altho I haven't dropped a Hobgoblin once yet. I wish Cho still had 1 attack.

Just a question, because I guess I missed the part where people discussed the card, but how come so few use floating watcher? With the hero power, imps and dread infernal, that card has won me many a match, yet still I see it being skipped when watching streams of Arena runs.

That card wrecks people in arena, I see it all the time. It works on constructed to, for some variants of Demonlock. Which streamers are you watching who are passing it up?

Yeah, basically this. It's a powerhouse in Arena. You need to remove it immediately. I had a Mage get one with Unstable Portal once and it was a nightmare, he found so many ways to ping himself. Hero ability, Mad Bomber, Madder Bomber, etc. In the single turn he dropped it it was already up to an 10/10 (didn't help me much that it only cost him 2 mana to drop) and the next turn it was like 14/14. It's not so great in constructed though, as it's too expensive and slow and too many people run silence for Undertaker, but it can work well if you save your Flame Imps.

Does anyone have arena rankings for heros post GvG? Floating Watcher does indeed wreck arena but you still have to choose to play warlock and I think he's closer to the bottom overall. Usually you get at least one good choice(druid, paladin, rogue, mage), but I have no idea which is the best out of warrior, shaman, warlock. Wish I could mulligan my hero choices.

Backing up Deathwing's question here but I am really struggling in Arena (as a newb admittedly), best I have managed is a 3/3. I have been using IcyVeins guideArena Guide - Icy Veinsbut I am seriously questioning some of their shit.
1) A lot of places have Paladin as second best for arena. However, I must suck at playing Paladin because I get schooled totally. What kind of mana curve are we looking at? Control? Mid-range?
2) Card choices - IcyVeins poorly rates the following which I have seen win people multiple (4+) games against me.
Annoy-o-tron
Antique Healbot - 8 heal + 3 on the board? Why do they think this is shit? More than once this has turned a win into a loss for me.
3) Silence - seems greatly underrated by IcyVeins but when your taunters can no longer taunt this makes baby jesus cry,
Now I probably tend to play too aggressively (old school MTG Burn player) and I am working on that but should I be doing something else different?

By the time you get over the jubilation of winning your match your hunter opponent has already beat their next opponent. I used to get the same way and think the hunter got lucky at times when they barely got lethal off, but the truth is you need to get lucky to beat hunter because they have a number of ways of killing you, you have to draw into your right taunts and heals whereas hunter can draw into anything to kill you if you don't. Last night I got added for a "gj lucky fucker" when I was 1 off lethal two turns in a row and had lethal 3 different ways the turn I killed him.

Warrior is really strong if you get a few weapons, but if you don't you're often hosed because chances are you didn't get a brawl and warrior has basically no aoe to remove minions.

Determining the value of a card by itself is step one of arena. Not that hard, just requires playing a little bit and the help of some simple spreadsheets, like the one you linked above. The next step is determining a card's value within the picks you already have. This is a lot harder than it sounds. How does it fit in the curve, deck archetype, and what synergies does it have? Do you have enough of that type of card already? Or do you not have enough for 30 cards, but since you're at pick 15, you're likely to get another down the line?

Heartharena.com might be able to help you with this. You might disagree with some of their ratings and how they weight certain curves and synergies, but it will at least help you realize some of the nuances that go into making pics beyond "which of these 3 is best?". Also, the guys that made heartharena have a stream, arenacoop, which they draft and play arena agonizingly slow. But they explain almost every decision they make, so it's great for learning.

For antique healbot, I'll say that it's rated low because if you need that 8 health to live, that healbot is likely only a delaying tactic. Your opponent likely has board control, will easily kill off your 3/3, and will remove the 8 health in the next 2 turns. Plus it only leaves you with 5 mana for that turn, which isn't much to work with when the opponent has 10. That said, it does seem to be quite popular and it's fucking annoying when someone plays one. But it's just that, annoying. Played properly, healbot in arena just delays. Constructed is a whole other matter.

What I don't understand is how a card can be godly in arena and never used in ladder.

Some cards are overshadowed by better versions of it, in constructed you always have the choice to go with the better option.

Some cards are weak to certain strategies that keep them in check in constructed where you can expect things like Big Game Hunter or Black Knight but those cards are almost never seen in arena so the cards stock goes up.

The reverse is true as well, Undertaker is a pretty low pick in arena due to the fact that you can't reliably draft good deathrattle cards. Same thing with 1 drops in general.

So ridiculous. I haven't really had a chance to play with Imp-losion until now. Got 2 in arena, as well as a bunch of other removal. So sick. Even if you don't kill the creature or do the max damage, the board presence is so strong. Removal + board presence in one card is just too good. Did I just pay 4 mana to do 5 damage and get 5/5 total power/health on the board? Wut?

I'm 7-0 with a Warlock atm, but I have insane removal. 2 Implosion, 1 Soulfire, 1 Corruption, 1 Shadowflame, 1 Shadow Bolt, 1 Darkbomb, 1 Drain Life, 1 Siphon Soul lol. Also 2 Argus, 2 Sunwalkers, 2 Dread Infernals. I usually go 5 wins with Warlock, but I've done a 12 win with Warlock before and a couple 8+. Warlock is definitely in the bottom 4, next to Priest, Warrior and Hunter. Basically, the best classes are the ones that can affect the board. Which is why Mage will always be numero uno.

Uh, Shaman? Shaman was arguably #3 over Rogue in arena class power rankings before GvG. It was (imo) Mage, Paladin, Shaman, Rogue, everything else. Now it's Paladin, Mage, Rogue, Shaman, everything else. Warrior and Priest are definitely the worst arena classes.
