Man I've loved this series since I was a kid. The last two have been pretty disappointing, but six had its moments. I have god only knows how many hours in homm 3 and 5. The trailer looks good I hope Ubi doesn't fuck it up.

my first thoughts was, man this looks like its a mobile game. that art style..

also, songs of conquest, going back and playing heroes. I just have a hard time finding these games fun.

They've done a decent job with Heroes...

But Might and Magic on the other hand, was completely ran into the ground by Ubisoft.

It's really a giant waste they own the IP-- worst possible fit. They have no idea what they are doing with RPGs.

Might and Magic should have been on par with Dragon Age.

Might and Magic laid the groundwork for 3D RPG worlds and ushered in EverQuest.

This particular one is being made by Unfrozen who did Iratus: Lord of the Dead, which was an excellent Darkest Dungeon clone where you play as the bad guys mowing through a hoard of people meant to keep you buried underground. I have utmost faith in them to do a great job. Less so with Ubisoft publishing. 5 is actually my favorite of the series, but 6 was shit, and I never purchased 7 with how bad 6 was.

Didn't it get weird with aliens and ray guns and stuff later on?

And everquest was more inspired by ultima underworld than this crapfest.

This was always the might and magic lore iirc believe it or not. The demons were aliens crash landed on Enroth.

Its complicated.

Amusing ALL the fantasy games of that era had aliens and ray guns. ultima and wizardry straight up had wookies. blasters. lighstabers. ultima had an xwing. also the space shuttle.
might and magic was in this mix as well. they all came out right after Starwars..

now, for might and magic things get more complicated.

Might and magic, heroes of might and magic, and might and magic:heroes are not the same.

There are multiple worlds and canons involved. Enroth. the original. fantasy, with ancient sci fi stuff. Enroth is destroyed, everyone flees to Axeoth.

ashan. the high fantasy one from dark messaih, heroes of might and magic v, might and magic heroes 6, and 7, and might and magic x.

xeen.


this game is returning to Enroth it seems.

I rember the strange stuff in wizardry.

Not ultima though. Maybe one of the really early text based ones, but from 4 on it was pretty generic fantasy. And I played them all from 4 to UO.

yeah, the really out there stuff for ultima was 1-3. there were some easter eggs in later ones, but those were really just easter eggs.

This looks like a remaster of a older game. The graphics, ui, animations, the whole aesthetic just screams "outdated".

HOMM 3 was always my favorite.

Absolutely legendary game. Every single version they ever made after it was just a shadow of it.

There is a thriving competitive scene based on HoMM3, mainly out of Russia. They have even made new factions and got the original composer to make music for them. It is basically all I watch on Twitch these days. Italianbeastr0, check him out. He explains what he is doing really well and makes it interesting to watch.

Brad didn't care all that much for Ultima. He was mainly on Sojourn the DIKU MUD and also was a fan of Jon Van Caneghem's work.

The first person I ever watched on twitch was some Russian HOMM streamer. Didn’t think 15 years later it would still be popular.
