Yeah, they need to fix that shit with the tutorial, thats great and all you don't have to do the practice and co-op game, but if you select the highest lvl you really should not need to go through a tutorial on how to move and attack. If anything its backwards, selecting the highest lvl should allow you to skip the tutorial and you just have to do a practice/co-op game, I'd rather play against bots than do a dumb tutorial on the most basic of things.
You can skip the tutorial. Just hit ESC and the menu has an option to skip it.

I think its deeper than just moba players vs non Moba players. Our group has both and both groups felt the same way. There just isn't enough individual impact toake your contribution feel meaningful. It's feels like original AV when 40 horde and 40 alliance just crashed into eiach other over and over again.
I disagree. You can very, very quickly tell who on your team is a complete idiot and who is actually good at the game. Same token for the enemy team. There have been many games where I'm not playing very well and I just decide I'm not interested in losing to these people so I go try-hard and win the game. If that isn't personal skill I'm not exactly sure what you're looking to get.

I said it earlier in this thread, a good portion of my friends (10+ people) are in the alpha and everyone lost interest very quickly. These are all people who buy every Blizzard game day 1 (most also play either LoL or Dota). I keep hearing people say that the game will pick up when more people get invited, but from my admittedly limited sample set people just don't want to play it.

I know Blizzard is trying to make a non-moba moba, but I'm not sure that's a great decision. There are a fuckload of people who play mobas nowadays, last weekends LoL WC matches probably had 3m people watching, if not more. There's a staggering amount of interest in League/Dota 2 worldwide, while HoTS chugs along every night with <1k viewers on twitch.

You can tell who is an idiot for who is good in go fish... The point is who is good compared to great. If we use a ladder system like Leagues... Its the difference between a gold and a diamond.. In league its pretty obvious.. So far in hots it doesn't appear to be. I'm sure there is a difference... But a top tier player isn't going to "carry" a game. Maybe that's by design... It probably is... But it makes the game feel very shallow.

Consensus from blizzard employees is that addingatchmaking with a banning draft will fix everything... It will help.. Not sure its going to be the magic patch they are hoping for.

So far, to me, the game is fun. I ain't tryin to be the king of mobas, I just want to have fun. LoL bores me because it takes so fucking long to play a match and it feels so static with the single map system. I really like the bridge map in LoL though.

I played LoL for many years but got bored and now recently I've been playing dota 2. The biggest problem I have with dota 2 is the match length potential. Since 6.82 I've had several games break the hour and 15 minute barrier and one that went 1 hour and 31 minutes. I just don't find these match lengths acceptable anymore and basically have to take into account that a match could potentially last 1.5 hours every time I want to queue.

I fully agree with everyone saying it's dumbed down compared to other mobas, but honestly if that makes shorter matches, I'm ok with it. It's also going to be easier to get some of my friends to play it who don't want to take the time to learn dota 2 and don't want to play it because of match length either.

This is the part where you learn HOTS skills and learn to notice other people with HOTS skills that I mentioned.

What consists of hots skills? Is it more of a team-fight decision thing? Kinda like ARAM style stuff?
I don't know, I never played the game.

It's very easy to see who is good and who is bad in a traditional MOBA the moment you start playing (LOL, DOTA, Dawngate, HON etc.). There is a common experience in all those games. In HOTS, there is a completely different skill set outside mechanically playing the game. It's a more team oriented game where the team excels for the most part versus the individual exceling.

The only comparison is that imagine in LOL where every single member on your teams had an even KDA ratio. No one was 6/2/5, and no one was 1/10/4. How would you view all your team mates if everyone was 3/3/3?

Tenks is getting angry because he's the local fanboy for the game and he's assuming we're looking down on the game. It's pretty easy to pick out a really good LOL/DOTA player because he is snowballing and carrying the game. If you watch a game where you have a 15/1/5 Katarina and a 2/8/3 Khazix, the Katarina really really stands out the longer the game goes on. From my small amount of experience with the game, the same is not true in HOTS.

However, the more you play HOTS the more you understand the subtleties of the game and are able to recognize who is a beast and who isn't (outside of just being mechanically inclined).

TLDR: It's easier to see a player carry a game in traditional MOBAs than it is in HOTS for a casual observer.

The biggest issue I see with it is that (and I know, it's alpha) right now hero balance is pretty wonky within the classes. Combined with how few heroes there are, and the 'weekly rotation', you end up seeing the same heroes every match, until people unlock/buy the uber-dudes. Then you end up seeing the same rotation heroes every match, plus the same 2-3 OP ones like stiches, uther, arthas, and nova. Matchmaker tends to pair you really unevenly a lot of the time, so god help you if the enemy team has 2-3 tanks and you have none.

Let's be honest here class balance has never been blizzards strength especially in the early stages of their games.

Ya. I'm not too worried about class balance. I do think a banning draft can fix that. I'm more worried about the lack of RPG elements in this moba. I guess i liked how traditional mobas felt like you were playng a full RPG in a 1 hour sitting.

I do like the shorter games... But I don't think having shorter games required removing items, kda, etc.

There will definitely be a skill tier to hots... But it is going to be team oriented.. Which means pugging is going to be frustrating.

Yeah, I'm used to that. I expect a ton of FoTM classes which then get nerfed into the ground.
You get that with every moba, though. We'll see if they plan on balancing the DOTA way or the League way. I would prefer the DOTA way but we'll see. DKim seems to prefer (at least taking from SC2) to balance via direct tweaks so I'd more expect the League way. But with that said there have been some extremely broad reworks but not a whole ton of "nerf to the ground" style moves. Like Stitches was rebalanced by simply removing Sprint from his kit. He isn't OP anymore but is still viable. Then there have been some minor number/damage tweaks to others like Tychus' grenade knockback comes to mind. For being so early in the game with so many heroes there hasn't been a whole ton of strife outside of certain kits like Illidan and Murky (now Nova) who just get reworked from the ground up.

Lack of smartcast makes dota 2 unplayable for me, good chance I'm just a retard though.
Dota2 has had smartcast for like a year. Thought it can't be configured as well directly and you need to use macros if you want to smartcast on release only rather than on keypress. Could use smartcast since forever using macros too.

You know what grinds my gears? People who use multiple battle.net accounts and just allow all them to get alpha codes or the people who sign up and don't even play. Cool guys these ones.

And of course there is gonna be FotM classes. I think they should have went with free heroes and then sell skins, UIs, mounts, etc similar to Dota 2. Unfortunately, they went the price gouging route.

Yeah, thats kind of what I was getting at. 10k gold is nothing to sneeze at and is like a solid month of dailies. So I'm really hoping they keep the balancing somewhat in check
