Yeah, me and the wife did it. Blew in about 14-15 in of shit. Cellulose though, not fiber. Took turns either in attic or feeding the hopper. The machine rental, at the time, was free if you bought x amount of cellulose. EZ PZ but I reccomend you do it either in fall or early spring since its hot as fuck up in attic, if thats what you are talking about. Walls and shit I have no clue.

I did it and it was no problem.

My biggest problem I ran into was the hose connection was shitty and blew loose in my room a few times. Careful on setting the machine up and it will be a lot easier on clean up lol.

Blown in insulation is easy and won't take more than a couple of hours. If you want to do any kind of wiring in the attic though, do it first.

upstairs AC died this morning.

Anyone have recommendation on brands? Attic unit with exterior condenser. What brands are people installing now? Had to rush out and buy a bunch of temp AC units as its a few weeks out before we can get the AC installed.

I have 3 Rheem units that haven't broken in the 10 years I've had them. I think they are 14 years old now.

And watch for nails that missed the rafters. Nothing worse than standing up into a nail. Put down a walking board or two and wear safety glasses.

Gotta be mindful in attics.

I only have a few errant roofing nails. I smacked them with a gob of paint when I painted the room below. It's ugly, but that's the point.

Put down a walking board

Been debating doing this for a while. Live in DFW area and I kinda wanna know, what's a good material for this? I mean do I have to worry about 5/8ths ply at all if i turn it into a walk / crawl surface?

My house in MA was 5/8'th on the floor. The nail I hit was on the ceiling.

when i was asking around and debating putting plywood in my attic, as long as the joists were 16in apart, any plywood 1/2 or thicker was fine for making a walkway, seasonal storage. if your joists are 24in apart, be wary. (i decided against this, since there won't be longevity here)

Anything you won't fall through or break if you step on it. Just something you can temporarily put down on top of the beams so you don't step through or pucker a sheet rock ceiling with your foot. I've never impaled my head on a nail, but I have almost stuck a foot through the finish work a few times. The roof of a house can be really dirty and hot...the last time I was in one it was 140F.

10 seconds of prevention is better than 10 hours of cure, and all that.

I feel bad for whomever has to go replace my AC unit in the attic in a few weeks.

Reached out to my General Contractor and he got one of his buddies to prioritize us. Guess when you are in the middle of a 250-300K USD renovation they want to help.
