We know 3 people in the area with similar sized homes that have had their roofs redone within the last few years, plus add on a few bucks for damage we have they didn't. I'm guessing based on that. Found a site that said average cost in our area was just under 10k, but I'm not sure how good that info is. House is single story 1200 sqft + 2 car garage.

My house is pretty small. 35 x 22. It was $3200 and they had to replace 3 sheets of plywood. But then again, I also didn't choose the super expensive shingles which would have upped the price significantly.

Normal pitch Aframe like 4-6/12? Shingles I assume?
That's 18-1900 sqft. Now 25 yr dimensional shingles are $75 a square here, $100 for lifetime. Course you need to add felt, nails, drip edge, plywood repair, ridge cap and so forth So around 2k materials. Dump charge on debris and stuff, 3k max material. Back in my younger years I could do a 1 story 19sq tear off and shingle in 2-3 days alone. If they are getting 7k for that, fuck my back, I'm going back into the roofing business!

I cringe everytime I hear this. Cheap 3tab to lifetime dimensionals are a difference of about $30 a square. For a rood your size it is a difference of like $240. Plus the damn dimensional are easier imo to install. Roof companies rip people so hard in that department.
A+ to Noodle for having a throne. First thing I do when I move into a place is throw out that 15 inch commode shit, go get a 17"+ handicap height one. Thrones are the most important aspect of a house.

Depends on where you live to be honest. Around here almost all the roofs have 15lb felt on them, but it really depends on location and steepness of roof( steep roofs will get much more wear on the felt installing than a normal 3-6/12 pitch and tear easier ).
Also should say once the roof is on, the felt will do it's job and doesn't matter which it was. The purpose of felt is a moisture barrier and seep control to the wood. 30lb is made due to steep roofs wear and tear in installation and some roofers just felt and move on and it lasts longer exposed till the crew that shingles comes in.

I believe my roofer used dimensional. Or maybe it was "hd" or whatever. They weren't the lifetime ones, though.

Actually, here's exactly what they were.

yes ask another company, it does cost more on vents than sq footage but both play a role due to length of lines. At your house size you SHOULD be looking at $800 to $1100 unless you live in a place where money is worthless compared to rest of US ( Cali/NY so forth).

I should add that price is if you are having them sealed as well. If they are just cleaning them and sanitizing them it would be half that.
I'm curious the company name that gave you that price. I bet they do NOT have a good record. It should take 2-3 guys 2-3 hours to complete the work, including cleaning the coil/blower and inspection. The materials for it is a tiny fraction.
So he just emailed me and said he would be willing to do it in September for $750 if could use my house a demo to potential partners.. Wtf?!

Take that offer. That just means he'll do a really good job on it, and periodically people will come and look at your roof.

Oops, sorry. Didn't follow the conversation as closely as I thought I had.

I'd get some things in writing - like how often he's allowed to bring people over, and the time of day/day of week that happens, and I'd certainly find out what he'd charge if he didn't use you as a model of his work.

Keep in mind and I am not paranoid here , many of these companies are legitimate, but anyways that some of these companies are scams and this is a very easy scam work to do as in not qualified or overcharging or do horrible as fuck work.
Use Angies list if you are in a big city, if not use someone in the yellow pages with a ad that is a local number. The reason yellowpages are good for legit businesses is yellowpages RAPE business owners for those ads, so if someone spent $10,000 for a ad, it's probably legit.

September? Pfftt Ask him what he plans to eat in August.

I got his info from the actual aeroseal company as a certified installer. I'm still going to get other estimates.

Finally got around to putting new fabric on the 45 feet of chain link fence. I got 3 estimates, from $700-950. Total cost including all the tools and materials was <$200 and about 2 hours of my time, including watching a 5 minute youtube on how to do it.

What the hell? Time to go into the fencing business.

It's a little more than that.

Your time includes the time it takes to go out and quote the job, go to Home Depot and pick up supplies and to drive back to the site to do the labor. Then you have to factor in how much business insurance costs, insurance for a work vehicle and medical insurance for the main guy, and chances are some of these guys have 1-2 assistants just to make their lives easier.

It's a bit more than you think off the top of your head.
