Sprayers are great outdoors or indoors on new construction but yeah, if you have furniture and trim and flooring already in it's just too much work to mask everything even if you can paint a room in 20 minutes. It's faster to just mask your trim, throw down some drop cloths, and roll it.

Anyone have recommendations for how to cool a room against sunlight? My office is west facing and I am dreading another summer of 8 hours of direct sunlight.

New windows are the best option but not in the budget for this year, plus my wife would be pissed if I just did my office window. Was thinking of something like this + blackout curtains maybe.

Curious if anyone has used something similar.

Also sucks on the storm door, I'm in the market for a new one as my dog ran through and destroyed my screen insert and Larsen doesn't make my model anymore.

You need to reflect the sunlight back out. The blackout curtain will just absorb the heat.

You can either tape up a car windshield reflector in each window, or get a reflevtive film to put on windows

just block off what you don't want to spray, i've seen ppl use cardboard, but of course, your lines aren't crisp. i recommend this whole fully and i came about it b/c i wasn't going to do that silly masking tape again

I'm sure as hell not going to hook up my sprayer and go through that whole ordeal just for one room. But masking and all that shit? Lanx linked the right tool. If you're in Lowes, should be right there at the cabinet with all the spray nozzles. Super cheap and the thing is huge as fuck and swivels - super light, too. On the flip side, if you have rentals - it pays to have every single room in the house the same color. Landlord special, bb.

Those things do not leave crisp lines. Also the masking was for areas I did not want overspray, so doors and windows being covered. It was still a lot of prep and more importantly a lot of cleaning. Also, don't know what people are doing with those with an airless, they are a handful with the hose and gun with extensions and all that.

I haven't seen the straight edge thing before. If you are going to mask though, a 3M hand masker is definitely worth the $40.

What's y'all's go to for home security cameras and lights? My neighborhood has had a pretty steady steam of punks walking the street and night checking for unlocked car doors. The guy is using his cell phone light to look inside the cars.

1. Any recommendations on something that records go at night?

2. So they make wall mounted lights that have a motion sensor to turn on a 2nd light? I want my driveway always lit, there 2 lights on either side of the driveway, but I want it to get brighter if it senses motion. I could get a 3rd light installed in the middle of there's no option for that

After you take care of the perimeter security you can get one of these

IDK if there's good systems without a ton of investment. If you want to avoid cloud/sub costs I guess Ubiquiti stuff is probably decent. Otherwise you just got to Costco and get you a Lorex, or buy whatever tech brand you like off Amazon in your ecosystem of choice and pay the monthly sub.

Surefire Scout light at the end of a 5.56 or .308 has a LOT of lumens. That's what I would use at night, knowing those pieces of shit are around.

I have Wyze cameras around my house inside garage and pump house. They record on device, are reasonably priced, and I think they offer monitoring (don't use that). I use the pan/tilt cameras which can be set to sweep. They also connect to regular wifi so you don't need a special $$$ box for a private band (assuming that's still a thing, been a while since I looked.

To do it right it's going to cost some bucks. I'm using a Lorex system, I'm not a huge fan of the cams and will be upgrading those at some point but the system works well. I went with the upgradable NVR and threw 16TB at it. That gets me roughly 30ish days of storage. All hard wired, stored onsite, continuously recording.

Those motion lights that throw additional light give off terrible shadows and aren't good for visibility on playback. My recommendation would be to work with an electrician and add additional light on the outside of your property, then you can dial in your camera setup appropriately. Are you using newer LED lights on the outside now?

That's sort of cool, but I hope they're not actually watching movies on VHS. If you haven't played one lately the picture is stunningly bad on a big screen TV.

Yeah, but you wouldn't know it. The lights on either side of my drive way are on in that video, my next step is to get higher watt bulbs and update 1 camera.

I have the 1080p version of this:

The solar panel works great.

The problem with all these cameras seems to be that they don't always register movement and start recording. I also have some Blink and Arlo cameras. The TP-Link seems to have the best, still not perfect, motion detection.

Hopefully with more illumination and 2k, it gets the job done. My city is rated one of the safest in the nation, punks from Austin have figured this out and target neighborhoods in these suburbs.

Can you hard wire cams so you're constantly recording and don't have to worry about the motion?

We live in a pretty small city in Northern California. Crime is minimal but we've had cams for years. Just makes me feel safe.
