I put it down in my parents sunroom. Good enough for there. Not a lot of traffic and they put the plants in there in the winter. Went down real easy.

I think it depends on how much you pay for the stuff. I’ve seen it from $.98/sqft to around $7.0/sqft. and they don’t look anything alike.

There was definitely a huge difference when I picked out stuff for my remodel. Like lurker said though not just price. Was important to pick a color, design, style combination that all went with the room so that it looked more natural and didn’t stand out as fake. A lot of natural light made some of it sheen and look plastic, some of it was way too uniform in their “natural” style. I liked what I picked but probably would do it differently in this new house. The feeling under foot, barefoot and with shoes, was just strange.

I had vinyl plank in the bathroom. Just ripped it out and put down a roll of vinyl, main reason? 5 year old son hose piping piss all over, it gets into the gaps and is impossible to clean so ends up stinking. He's imaginative I'll give him that, he's experimented with pissing through a toilet roll tube, into a cup then pouring it out, with the lid down, standing on the footstool etc etc. Fun stuff.

Why would I spank him? he's wasn't being malicious, just experimenting, and he doesn't do it any more. If you smacked your kid everything time they did something daft they'd be permanently covered in bruises.
You don’t spank kids so hard you bruise them, you do it to get their attention, a quick sting slap.

Installed some vinyl plank flooring for a friend today. I had never worked with that stuff, it's super easy and nice to work with. Easy to cut, lays down fast. I did almost 800 square feet in a short day.

Now, all that said, I think it is ugly. Doesn't look amazing, but there are certainly places for it. This was in a basement in a room full of exercise equipment. It doesn't have to be cozy. And the basement has flooded twice. We're pretty sure that's fixed now, but no sense putting carpet back in until you're sure, and this guy found the stuff at a Habitat Re-Store. Super cheap, looks better than bare concrete, done in a day.

I've done other click-install, floating floors, but never vinyl. Others have thoughts on it?
I mean pergo stuff is meh but for his application why spend money on something like wood floors? For a basement exercise room I’d be most concerned about how well the material will hold up. Consider that + looks + price would be my deciding factors.

Dunno how well that vinyl stuff does but come back in maybe 8 months and update us for curiousity’s sake.

My whole upstairs is vinyl plank. I love it. Dogs can't do shit to it, don't worry if I spill water on it, fairly easy to install. What's not to like?
I do like the idea of water not affecting it. I’ve seen wood floors that have warped due to water spills that weren’t caught.

Got new gutters two days ago. Having them piped to underground drainage on monday. Pretty stoked. House really needed it to get that pooling water away.

I had two masonry contractors come to take a look at the cracking on the house. The majority of the cinderblock cracking seems aesthetic. Some definitely needs to be grinder out and remortared. One guy seemed to think only the bigger cracks warranted remortaring and told me to just paint over smaller cracks.

Other guy was much more thorough taking pics of every crack and wants to remortar all of them. Not sure how that’ll look for cinderblocks where crack is in the actual block… I tried to get across that I need these patches to look unnoticeable texture wise (house will be repainted).

What do you guys think? Do small cracks in cinderblock need remortaring or just paint?

Here are some pics of smaller cracks to give you an idea.

Tiny mortar cracking like that I would 100% just repaint. If it was chunking out and falling apart I’d consider mortar.

Chasing down all those cracks is a fool's errand. Deal with the largest ones and consider elastomeric paint for the rest.

Any chimney experts here? I have a chimney going to my basement that used to be a vent for an old propane floor heater. The heater has been replaced with one that doesn't need a vent, but I'm wondering if I could put a wood stove down there. It's 8" pipe, apparently double walled and at least at the subfloor it's cut away from the pipe. Seems like it might work to me, but I really want an authoritative answer for this because I would hate to spend a bunch of money and effort putting in a stove just to have it burn my house down when I light it.

Yall had me looking around my house found these out the front, definitely new the past few months as I check the caulk about every 3. How fucked is this? Texas clay under the foundation.

the bricks cracking seem bad, but the mortar separating is an easy fix i picked up a tube of this and it worked great w/ the texture and color to match

I don't see how that first set of cracks happens without a structural or load problem. Looks like the roof and top half of the building want to be farther forward than the foundation and lower wall. I'd get it checked ASAP.
