Many other GoT shows were cancelled. This one was greenlit. It means something.
that could just mean it feels most like Game of Thrones, just with new non canonical characters and no long term story arc.

think about it like this.
Game Of Thrones=George had an idea

House Of The Dragon= he got paid to make an idea like his old idea

hmmmm

Sounds like a lot of writing.
bah, same amount of writing, you dont even need GRRM to develop it. just give an outline of one of those unknown regions and go from there. one of the great disappointments in the books was they never shown what Asshai or the Shadowlands were like. sounded like a crazy place, full of magic and dark creatures.

Don't I know it. The credit should be "Brought to you by GRRM Ent." or "created from stories by GRRM." At this point. HBO is hellbent on having GRRM on writing credits and as the principal writer for all this shit.

It's actually madness considering how many spinoffs he has in production. Wonder how much slack the screenplay writers/adapters are picking up for him. Probably entire sections of story are filled in by the screenplay team because his fat ass can't keep up or turn in a cogent body of work. Rather than just adapting his story I'm sure they are writing a good amount of the story each episode. But GRRM already negotiated this 100 million dollar contract so his name has to be on the writing credits.

I would guess GRRM's "busy" since the gutpunch is spending several hours any given evening on his phone with the screenplay guys, pertaining to all these shows.

Exactly why he can't write any more books-- he's having to phone it in as they go.

well his ego wont let him give the story over to anyone else to finish and he isnt going to finish anything on his own. It was a huge mistake by HBO for even paying GRRM to write a fucking thing since he shit the bed so hard with ASOIAF. some HBO exec should have had the balls to say, "fuck that guy, lets just license some rights to The Shadow Lands or The Cursed Lands and do whatever crazy shit we can think of." let George pretend he had something to do with it.

73 years old too. It's just bad fucking business. They should have been transitioning him away from principal writing duty. Instead they gave him all this clout and obligation at the ripe age of 70 with a gut the size of Texas. And as you alluded to, after ASOIAF belly flopped his clout should have been reduced to 0. But this is the same exact reason GRRM was given the big contract. They knew from his work with D&D that he's a pushover and it doesn't matter if he's handling the writing or not-- they can push him over and roll him down a hill at any time. HBO was happy to license his name, than license the rights to the IP, for that reason. To HBO it's same-same.

I cant talk for normies anymore because i dunno wtf is rolling around people's heads these days. But as a geezer, my first thought would be, wow a new game of thrones show? Written by the same guy who didnt begin to finish the actual game of thrones and thats why season 8 was so stupid?

They couldn't find anyone attractive to fill the main roles? Trailer making it a point that men will never let women rule the throne? How gay is this series going to be?

The younger guy with the evil/mischievous demeanor that looks into the camera towards the second half of the trailer is the only character that felt cast appropriately and compelling.

I'll return to this post later this year if that turns out to be true.

Overall it has WoT vibes... melty mushroom faces abound, and woke plot points. Hoping that's not really the case, but D&D were actually unheralded stalwarts of holding back a lot of woke. Without the hacks D&D around to stem it, I've little faith.

That's just HBO these days, it's complete social cancer.

I mean it's not a CW show in terms of having randomly attractive people for almost every role, but it's certainly not like WoT in how they seemed to actively cast aggressively unattractive people. This show is almost certainly going to be trash regardless.

as Jayrebb pointed out, this was the least woke GOT clone they could come up with. Valerya with black Valerians in it. imagine the even woker shows they could have gone with.

HBO spent $30m on a pilot featuring Naomi Watts based on The Long Night, set 10,000 years ago when the White Walkers were created and it was crazy different. Parts set in Valyria, featuring a very diverse cast and LGBT characters with a focus on feminism yadda yadda yadda. After watching the pilot the executives quietly cancelled it.

i hope some day it leaks because its gotta be worth a few lulz

The trailer did not inspire.

You can make any show look awesome with a trailer. This trailer did not make the new Game of Thrones look awesome. The black guy with white hair really throws things off for me. They could have had black people in the show without it being such a glaring disassociation with what is imagined. My largest concern is going to be the dialogue. That was what allowed season 1-4 to be so wonderful in the original. Its why the books were so popular and why the show was able to direct adapt most of them. This is coming out of left field with no books to guide the way. Nothing shown yet leads me to believe this will have anywhere near the audience and excitement of the first one. Special Effects go only so far.

I would add that charisma of an actor also helps(See Kit Harrington). Nothing in the previews looks to have that same character charisma. It almost looks like an extremely expensive school play that some teacher thought up to keep the original from fading into memory.

My bad, this had a book? Ok then. Maybe...a chance...Was the book popular???

I read the book that I assume this is based on. I enjoyed the book and hope they don't fuck up the show. I like most of you will be watching.
