Heat was better than Casino.

I like Casino. So much that I rewatched it recently. Honestly, it doesn't hold up nearly as well as Goodfellas. It really does feel by the numbers. But it's still worth watching once at least, and still a good movie. It's just for Scorsese it's mediocre. For anyone else it would probably be their best.

Casino is long and formulaic, it doesn't even approach Goodfellas or any other Scorsese movie for that matter. Heat is magnificent and I highly doubt anyone suggested that Casino was the better of those two films.

it didnt hurt. mostly it was for pulp fiction and mrs mia wallace. i loved me some uma back then.
it was a thinly veiled reference to your discussion about how Leon is the true name of the movie because it's the international title... but I guess I was too subtle

not at all, i chuckled when i saw someone else list it as Leon but i took the high road and didnt mention it because i didnt want a cool topic to get derailed. besides Leon is not only the international title. its the original title. technically The Professional is their international title.

I'm gonna reach back a ways. I don't think 1968 is better than many of the years already listed, mainly because a lot of movies from beyond the mid 70's just don't seem to hold up as well over time. Still, there's some iconic titles in there:

1968

Once Upon a Time in the West
2001: A Space Odyssey
Rosemary's Baby
Planet of the Apes
Night of the Living Dead
Where Eagles Dare
Coogan's Bluff
The Producers
Hang 'Em High
The Odd Couple

Hair

What I'd really like to see is a single post (or several ordered posts) from say '80-2000 with movies released each year to really judge. Going back and forth from post to post, random year to random year just ain't cutting it.
this is 1980-2000. I tried to include blockbusters, cult hits, generally praised comedies and movies folks generally agree are good to those with quirkier tastes. I'm sure i missed a few, but by the year 1990, the sheer amount of movies being made almost doubles so it's easy to gloss over all that text at times

So when did the sequels/remakes/reboots/reimaginings start taking over the majority of the major movie releases each year?
