So... everything is in the red. Im cashed out like I was advised - but this is the first time I'll be paying attention to the market during a presidential election. How long does this generally last before its back to "business as normal"?

This is one of those weeks I could easily make $15k or lose $15k and pretty much nothing in between other than to just sit it out.

I’ll be changing my avatar to something else soon Blazin Blazin I’ve more than honored the bet, still can’t believe they lowered those rates, did nothing though from what I can tell, interest rates actually went up on home loans last I saw.

Both home loan and long duration bond markets have moved up nearly 50bp since the Fed “cut” by 50bp. I’d wait for the election and Fed decision to shake out before making any predictions.

Closed out my PLTR calls for a small loss. The plan was to close out before earnings on a pullback but it never really materialized. <shrug> shit happens. I'm not looking to gamble holding through earnings tonight.

Stick to your gameplan. Even if it didn't go the way you had hoped. Do not be afraid to admit your trade didn't work the way you thought it would. I lost about 20 cents a share on my covered calls yesterday when I closed them out ahead of earnings because the plan was to be out ahead of earnings.

Earnings:

ps.. Congratz to whomever it was holding a truckload of shares. Search is still broke so I cant see who it was.

The plan with PLTR was to be a long term hold and let the AI situation mature and play out, but what is happening to the stock is fucking with my head.

Looking back do you feel the unrealized loss on the initial entry played a roll in getting you to go big? ie, when you pay $26 and it then drops 50% you see more value at the larger additional purchases. Said another way would you have made the additional investments if it never retraced back down? Obviously, it's impossible to say for sure, but would be curious at your hindsight thoughts on it.

PS. I'd sell :) it's the most over priced stock in the entire market but that's been true for awhile and it just keeps on trucking. Wonderful display of patience holding through the tech wreck.

I wanna add on this. I remember during the 2022 carnage the stock going down around $7 or so and thinking about doubling or tripling my stake and then telling myself no because it was a wild gamble and I wouldn't expand the bet I had made. I think the SPAC bloodbath was in full swing and that definitely influenced my decision to hold fast. <sigh>

Im not entirely sure. It was a timing event as well. I had a big injection of cash and almost all of my portfolio was already in VFIAX. So it was a bit of cost averaging mindset and a bit of YOLO to be honest. It was an amount I was comfortable losing while waiting to see how the AI euphoria shook out. I just was not expecting it to shake out as fast as it has across the entire market (e.g. nVidia)

It's also the only large position I hold outside of VFIAX. I'm not a trader and I dabbled a bit in the idiocy that was SPACs and AMC/GME but for the most part I'm a set and forget S&P500 kinda guy.

Yea, I am impressed with the double down and your diamond hands! I would have sold when it was up 50% or whatever.

So what's the game plan here? That's a solid chunk of money. Letting it moon or you ever turning it into realized gains?

I set a stop loss at $48 for half the position and will let the rest ride.

I guess I should also mention this was "house money". It was an inheritance and a decades old mutual fund in my name that my relatives forgot to tell me about/fully transfer over to me. Instead of upgrading my lifestyle I re-invested it and because it was an unexpected windfall I decided to do something a little more risky.
