I have some friends who own 5-6 Bay Area houses...millions of dollars in assets, and they rent them all at 3-4k a month. They get paid by check for all of them and don't pay taxes for any of them and have been doing this since the 80s.

I was actually blown away when they told me this, nonchalantly...I'd be shitting bricks to know the IRS could see I was depositing so much money every month for decades and never paying taxes for it. They're in their mid 70s now and since they haven't got caught by now I'm sure they don't give a shit. Even at their age I'm sure the IRS would nail them to the wall.

You can get up to 30% of tax assessed as a reward.

Referrals are confidential and can't be pulled by FOIA.

It's free money, and those people are stealing from everyone.

Congrats on your windfall of several hundreds of thousands of dollars.

"Oh that sucks!"

"Check out my three new Tesla's"

Ha!

Oh man...if these were people I didn’t like...

The thing is they’re some of the most helpful I’ve ever met and have helped me out greatly since I moved to California years back, including letting me rent one of their houses from 2016-2017 at approximately half market rate because I’m friends with the daughter and took care of it while she was away.

They’re good people, aside from being tax cheats.

lol. They let you rent for below market because they’re cheating on their taxes, not because you know their daughter.

Lets be real, good people usually dont engage in decades long coordinated schemes to conceal god only knows how much income. If they where brazen enough to engage in that level of tax invasion its a good bet they where/are committing other financial crimes.

They are literally thieving pieces of shit.

Not "tax cheats".

Everyone in this thread is dreading short term gains this year, because fucks like your shitty friends fuck us all over.

And you know, and enable it?

Dude, fuck you too

You want to hear something more ironic? The family as a whole has a ton of people in law enforcement, active and retired.

I am not “enabling” then to steal money by not reporting them. Do I like the fact they do this? No. That’s why when they told me, and the daughter told me she does it also, I was like really? I kinda pointedly asked her if she was afraid of getting caught in an accusatory way...unfortunately she was totally nonplussed by it. I don’t say it’s right and I think it’s incredibly flawed, and yeah, it dimmed my view of them a bit.

I am not going to rat out people who helped me though. The daughter in particular has done a lot for me (and no I don’t mean anything romantic or sexually) and has been a good friend.

Thats some pretty shaddy shit. Were not talking a few thousand dollars in gambling wins or something, but potentially millions of dollars of income.

I generally operate under the "dont invite the man into your life" philosphy so Im not screaming rat them out but no way id associate with such people. They cant be stupid enough to just casually tell someone they engage in massive amounts of easily provable tax fraud. So why would they tell you?

Wesley Snipes agrees with this statement.

I’m very close friends with the daughter. They weren’t just casually telling me. She’s even met my parents in another state before and stayed with them even when I wasn’t there. We used to a lot of stuff together. We now live about an hour away and she’s engaged and I don’t see her as often.

I’ve never not paid a dime to the tax man I owed. I haven’t even got a speeding ticket since the year 2000.

Dunno why you’re so tilted at me because I won’t rat someone else out.

I can just imagine telling my other friends:

“Hey I just got 300 grand from reporting tax fraud from my friend (we’ll call her Jessica, not her real name,) and her parents, isn’t that cool?”

“You mean Jessica the girl you used to hang out with all the time and she let you stay at her place when you were inbetween places and met lots of other friends through her, and introduced you to local places you didn’t know? Oookay, I don’t think we can be friends anymore.”

I mean envision telling anyone you know you ratted out someone else you know, and think about how they’d respond to it. No one is going to think you a better person, or that you did the right thing. Almost universally you’d be looked down on.

You don't tell anyone. God damn dude how hard is this? Quietly take your money and lul to yourself when you listen to their complaints about how they've been doing this since the 80's and that it's bullshit they got caught now.

I did more reading on trit and decided to open a small long position. I got in at 13.90, wish I got in a little lower but if it performs the way it's supposed to then its not that big a deal.
A short seller dropped a rumor of "announcing findings" 30 minutes before the close. Welcome to stock price manipulation right before options expiry social media style.
