Anyone familiar with how well EV has translated to heavy duty construction equipment? Proterra partnering with Komatsu, Proterra is merging with ACTC

A lot of the heavy equipment like excavators and such need to be running/working during the day ever minute. Too expensive to have sitting around charging or whatever unless they can charge while working which would introduce another big hassle in itself on a contruction site due to the cables and such. You would have a cable to charge on the site with other similar equipment having the ability to run over it a lost of the time. One more thing someone has to watch out for. These things need eyes at all times to keep from making bad things happen in a hurry, and they often do anyway.

That type of equipment on a lot of sites is the first stuff working during contruction. You would likely have to charge with a generator, adding something else to keep track of. I'm sure it's possible. Will it be cost effecient and time effecient nobody will know till they try it. I could see a brotherhood of electrical worker throwing a fit - OMG someone plugged up the equipment and it wasn't me!

Even our non mobile stuff we need to feed it with work from open till close every day.

The issues are numerous. First is the weight. Those vehicles are heavy and get heavier as they lift. On the plus side idle time wont burn electricity. The electric PTO is also a challenge. They do exist, but they aren't a lot of manufacturers so far. For those that dont know, the PTO is whats needed to push the hydraulic fluid to the cylinders that do the lifting. I am actually playing around with a design for my company to prototype.

Its all about utilization. That shit is pricey and needs to be used as many hours a day as possible.

The really big stuff is like a hybrid to begin with. Diesel engine generates electricity to power the electric motors. Just shifting the power source from on the mobile unit to a tether, a tether on a construction site would be the biggest issue I'm guessing.

Saw a gigantic dragline crush a F350 to a pancake. I'd like to see how big of a cable would be required to power it lol. It had to be taken apart and moved by rail and took a few months to move. I think D11's have to be taken apart to be moved as well and they're much smaller.

GME predictions for tomorrow?

I'm thinking of picking up half a dozen shares to be part of history

For whatever money you spend on six shares of GME you’d have more fun in AMC I think.

I sold a few nvidia stocks I've been holding onto for a decade - gonna play a few thousand into amc nok and bb tomorrow and see what happens over the next couple weeks

hoping the autist horde goes big into one of them with their biden bucks -- this is probably a big mistake

this is what I don't fully get, everyone says this, but then almost every large cap fund has tsla in their top 10
The difference is diversification. Buying TSLA calls is one stock TSLA. Buying the SPY has TSLA and 499 other stocks. One has 100% weight and one had 2 or 3% weight.

feeling a strong urge today to throw $1K each into some BB and NOK stonks

failed cell phone companies whom time has passed on by have never looked so hot

Memes aside Nokia is one of the largest market shares in 5g equipment from what I've read, so there's actually some merit to buying some NOK
