That is not at all what that means. Your pic shows buying a put (A contract to sell a stock) . So in this case you are buying a contract to sell GME stock as a price of $17 (the strike) at expiration of Feb 2019. This would cost a dollar. Meaning the stock would have to drop to $16 or less at expiration to make a profit.

Many people trade options and sell them prior to expiration, so in your example it could go up in value as GME declines but by 2/19 it will only have intrinsic value if any left. IE is the stock below $17 or is it above. If it is even $0.01 above $17 then the value of this put is $0 and you lose 100% of your investment.

Well, as far as I know, DFV never tried to position himself as an expert or a guru. Mark Cuban is here 2 weeks late, trying to pass off his wikipedia level knowledge of markets as some sort of deep guru insight.

well my claim to fame during this fiasco is buying amc at 5 and selling at 19 for a 4k gain. Jumped into some spacs with you guys yday and will just do that and chill on my play money for a bit
