In my brain, I can imagine Hamil being an old wise jedi type of character and I think that would actually fit into the movie very well. As long as he isn't running all over the place fighting people, but as a supporting role.

Han? I don't know. I really don't see him being something like a General or something in a fight. I can't picture how he would be, and in the end we'll probably get him dieing somewhere like Kirk in the TNG movie.

Leia can work if she's just there as an old politician/leader type. Background character that really isn't doing anything. Hopefully C3PO and R2D2 aren't still running around either.

im speaking of failing critically, Chaos. i know it made a fuckboat of money. it only did so well because people love the original star wars. its still the only film ive ever been excited enough to want to see at an early midnight showing. this is how that went, roll opening star wars logo. cheers in movie theater. movie starts.. fucking silence. movie ends. people silently leave.
Hamil will have to have a obi wan type role, Han and Leia 's son/daughter will be the new last jedi and maybe something happens to them where its up to Luke to teach their kid in the ways of the force. sure its a rehash of star wars but thanks to Lucas, its the only way to reboot the series.

I call bullshit. People were cheering and clapping at the showing I went to even if they were doing so with pangs of regret and doubts whether they should. I of course wasn't because I think that shit is retarded at a movie, but whatever, it definitely happened and I doubt my theater was an anomaly. It took time for some people to sink in exactly HOW bad it was.

The very first time watching the midnight release wasn't silent at all. Also the very start of the movie was pretty awesome until they get down onto the planet and Jar-jar happens.

people were cheering and clapping when? when quagon and obiwan were drinking tea and talking taxes with the trade federation?
i think at the showing i went to people cheered at the first sight of light sabers, but it got real quiet after that. whan jar jar happened people started talking smack during the movie. it was pretty bad. nobody cheered and clapped. but then again keep in mind i saw this in staten island during the 90s. bunch of cynical assholes in that theater.

The theater I saw it in was quiet as well. It was kinda like this slow realization that this movie... it's just bad. And confusing. I remember thinking how bad the cuts were even in the theater. And i'm not the type of guy that does that.

I think it's just midnite showings. You get lit and then go see a movie... you're gonna make some noise even if it's awful.

Yes, exactly. We were talking about midnight showings. Some people were just too plain amped to register that they should be booing.

George Lucas never, ever gave a fuck about critics. He doesn't even give a fuck about fan feedback, much less critics. Look at his response to that atrocious Indiana Jones, he acts like the fans are the ones with the problem. And then he points to the scoreboard. So yeah, I imagine he was surrounded my yesmen and sycophants, but just maybe there was one guy who was like "George, this movie was not good" and pointed out all the problems. Then the movie made a billion dollars and George points at the scoreboard.

The question is which direction do they take it? Introduce more kids or even grand-kids, or hell based on how old the original cast is now they could pull off great-grand-kids. I find this very likely. As much as they we bitch about everything involved most of us will watch it in theater opening weekend.

I do have to admit that hearing Harrison Ford will be in it makes me want to see it less, not more.

I'm just fucking tired of these too old to be action hero nostalgia movies. That's just what Ford being on screen broadcasts to me. "Look, Han is still a rascal and he's super rich! How cute!" I'm sure it's just a bit part and a nod.

But still. Ugh.

I will BET you he makes a "I'm too old for this" joke in the script. At some point he will say, "Go get 'im, kid." I will fucking avatar bet you.

Hamil wouldn't have bothered me in the same way at all if it had just been him. But all 3 of them... please stop fucking the corpse.

It has been a while since I saw a just out and out bad Disney movie. Granted, I didn't see the last 2 Pirates movies or the John Carter or whatever the fuck. But between them and Abrams I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Or at least not freak out until I have reason to.

Oh, don't get me wrong. Even if what I fear about The Return of the Han Solo pans out to be 100% correct, I'm sure it'll still be better than 1-3.

I was entertained by John Carter. I wouldn't be disappointed with a SW of that quality. Hell I wouldn't even pirate it. Hell it would be better than all the prequels.

Agreed. At first I actually hated John Carter because I'd read up about the story. My wife talked me around to almost liking it. It's been on TV a lot lately and we've watched the back half of it numerous times.

I never read any of the EU stuff other than a few Dark Horse comics, so I don't know if they addressed it, but from the movies I never picked up that they necessarily lived longer than other humans. Other than Yoda, who is some kind of turtle alien.

Luke is pulling off physical force tricks in his mid 50s that he couldn't have done at 18, and his 16 yr old son watching/thinking "wow". Just like anything else, no 2 Jedi are explained the same even if they are human. If they ever do talk about it they 'll probably just say something like a different understanding of the force. Luke is the leader of the Jedi Order at this point. You expect him to be God-like but humble. Can Hamil pull this stuff off?

I really hope they add in some of the force ideas and tricks from Force Unleashed. The game was stupid short but had some neat powers.

How old would a Jedi Master be looking like Hamil does now?
The force doesn't stop the aging process far as I can tell. Doesn't even seem to slow it down. Obi-wan was old as hell when Luke was only 20. He handed them over as babies as a middle aged man so he was aging normally. The Emperor was a older man during the clone wars and was a very old/slow man by the time Vader finishes him off. Yoda was ancient, but that is likely just a species thing. At best the force helps them do things they shouldn't be able to do at that age like Yoda fighting.

Following the aging shown in the movies Luke will die of old age around the same time as Han/Leia. So the movie would have to be about their children as adults, or younger grand children if they are aiming for a even younger audience. God I hope not...
