Saw that the other day as the resident Shyamalan apologist. I didn't read the book (wasn't aware it was one), so I can't comment on the changes he made when writing the screenplay. It's cleanly directed, but lacks the occasional moments of brilliance Shyamalan sometimes provide. It's competently acted, with Bautista giving a very commendable performance. The problem is that the basic idea is too dumb to create tension and too sterile to allow the situation or the characters to evolve. Still, for a film where not much happens, the pacing is done well enough to carry us through without boredom (that results in a 100 minutes affair in stark contrast with many overlong films). It's just... dull.
