Rip the entire thing apart and check all the parts for liquid stains and clean them up with isopropyl alcohol. While doing that, make sure to look for any scorch marks or other damage. If everything looks ok, put it back together and pray.

If anything looks suspect, look up the part and see what the replacement cost would be. Up to you whether that cost is worth the chance that it might not do the trick. It's a hit and miss method, but unless you want to take it to a shop or learn to properly diagnose individual parts, it's likely the best you can do.
If you want to take a real coin flip fuck it and/or don't want to take it apart. Take the battery completely out and pour isopropyl alcohol directly on the keyboard. If it's diet coke or coffee that doesn't have sugar you don't have to worry about it getting sticky. The alcohol will evaporate and it may or may not work. All you are out is a bottle of alcohol. To me , 6 year old laptop = date with the sledge hammer.

I am a packrat when it comes to old parts and systems. Someday that 20 year old mobo/CPU/cable might be useful!

Somewhere on this here website (you could use search but ...yeah) I noted that I was such a packrat that I had an elevator controller motherboard that I don't even remember where I got it. But I try once a year to purge shit that's sitting around taking up space. I reformed you can too with some help , and maybe a few beers !

Unfortunately after working on a POS system running Quicksell 2000 (the patch notes warned of the high RAM requirements of Win95) I will never be convinced to get rid of my stash. I'll likely be buried with it.

The utility room in my basement has all my house tools and power tools all around it. "Most" of them are in their spot, neatly organized (but Im lazy at times, w/e). But I have a short hall thats only about 5 feet wide with short 1 foot shelves on both sides off on the left as you come into the room. Its got all my old consoles, old games, my old gateway computer, the piece of shit acer my mom bought for me after that, the custom computer I bought after that, then you can tell I started building my own because it just devolves into individual parts that are still in their original boxes. No idea what Im eventually going to do with all this shit. I guess its nostalgia thats making me keep them. But.. all that shit still works if I want to plug it up. No idea why I would need windows 95 etc. But.. Ill figure it out one day. Or my brother's kids will when Im dead and they inherit the house.

I usually replace every 5-6 years anyway; this one was just unusual as it was causing zero problems and running all games great until my buffoonery. Was a rtx 2070 and ran cyberpunk , bg3 etc just fine on pretty good settings. So just seems like a waste of usable hardware. Big props to the asus of 2018, no idea if their laptops are as rock solid now.
I think I’ll try the isopropyl - hammer algorithm

I finally got rid of my first "real" computer (a packard hell from 1997) maybe 5 years ago, but I still have my trash 80.

I'm about to replace my old gaming desktop with a laptop. I haven't actually played any games since EQ2 came out with kronos. I'm leaning towards Dell because my companies have always used them. My question is, does anyone know how to tell which lines have space for an extra hard drive and easily upgraded memory? Back in the day Dell used to give you 360 views online where you could look at the bottom and see if it had access plates. I can't find anything like that now and I'm not sure if there's a keyword I can look for.

No one really buys Dell anymore for gaming, ~40% of the market is Lenovo.

This guy does good reviews on his channel, and he's got the timestamps in this video for the recommended laptop for each price point:
