If someone creates a super-material like LK-99 and there's a rush to publish it for whatever reason, it'll probably look something like this. If a group of scientists are out of money and are looking to scam some group for money, it'll probably look something like this.

I'm guessing the first group to publish solid info is the Korean verification committee. Unless they stall and the LK-99 creators publish the full recipe and someone else replicates it. Being a layman I don't really believe it until an American university publishes its findings and Neil Degrass Tyson makes a video about it with a lot of production value.

People emotionally attached to it succeeding and failing are two sides of the same coin. Fortunately when it comes to crazy breakthroughs you can safely be faithful to the idea that it's bullshit and be right most of the time. Personally I enjoy the spectacle of these events while hoping the breakthroughs make it.

I wouldn't consider myself emotionally attached. It's just politics with a healthy dose of cynicism. I prefer my side win, anything propping up the current orthodoxy is a loss, regardless of it's practical or economic implications.

Wut? I just said two things - LK-99 would be valuable as a liquid N-temp superconductor and what you said was dumb with regard to the nature of progress. I'm not invested in this outcome at all.
