Daniel Vavra is a lot of things, but "ethnically sensitive" certainly isn't one of them. He left 2K Czech just before Mafia 2's release though and 2K shut down operations there shortly after. That vibe you're getting is all Bay-area-hipster.

Ah, I see now that 2K only shut down one office in Prague and left the other one open. Regardless, Mafia 3 was made by Hangar 13 in Novato, CA and 2K Czech just assisted, which usually means stuff like asset creation. The Czechs definitely didn't write or design the game like they did the previous ones.

The story initially piqued my interest, but after reading some of these reviews, I have no intention of playing this garbage. EVERY SINGLE MISSION involves the same approach and the same interrogation/killing animations. Thinking about how lazy this industry has become makes my blood boil.

mafia 3 is like 40 hours if you do everything, you have to play through twice if you want to platinum the game

if you haven't played GTA5 you should definitely do that, it and witcher 3 are pretty much the peak of open world games that every other game is judged by. If mafia 3 is a 5/10, GTA5 is imo a 9.9/10. Be sure to switch up to first person view and see how you like it, its almost like a different game

I had Friday and Monday off last week so I binged on it and put in about 20-25 hours over the four days, skipped some side missions for the crew, and rifled through it to see the story. GTA5 blows it away. Honestly, watch a youtube on the story for Mafia 3 and call it a day is my advice since the gameplay is so repetitive.

I watched some early youtubes, and liked that there was dynamic spawn points for missions, but noticed that the few missions i saw all had the same approach.. interrogate so and so, which ends up being a kill or stealth or combo (rush the dude and interrogate him while all the AI stand around you awkwardly)... then the reviews and real opinions trickled out.. i'm still hoping to play this game, but at deep discount.

He's now working on Kingdom Come: Deliverance in Warhorse studios. He's also rather outspoken about some cliches in gaming like human enemies without a reason to be there, which is why Mafia 1 had relatively few people you had to shoot, compared to, say GTA, so I'm pretty sure he's not very pleased with how this game ended up

best buy is running a 50% trade in promo on ps4/xbone games this week, traded my copy of mafia 3 and Gears of War 4 for $44.80 each. I only got about 30% done with M3, but i just don't see myself doing the insane district grind for another 20 hours right now, especially with battlefield 1, titanfall 2, watch dogs 2, and FF15 on the plate. I'm sure it'll be under $30 during black friday too, will pick it up then and platinum it if I feel like it.

Liked the story, hated the shitty way the devs forced the game to be an extra 20 hours or whatever. Just trash mechanics, similar to Mirror's Edge 2 - open world doesn't mean add 30 hours of junk to your game, it means add interesting and cool side quests and stories that are totally ok for people to skip, but rewards people who delve deep into them. Can't believe in 2016 some devs still think added JRPG style grinding to your game is a good idea.

Loved Gears of War 4 campaign, the little I played of it, but I'm gonna rebuy digitally (its already under $40 on trading forums) so I can cross play on PC and xbone, but will wait till after i finish battlefield 1 and titanfall 2.

I got maybe 50% through the story--which I have no idea why people praise so much, it's not particularly interesting and so far there's no surprises just tons of clichés--and I just can't do it anymore. If the game at least had fast travel to make up for the ungodly amount of repetition I might have been able to slog through it to the end, but it lacks even that basic feature. I'm just glad I only rented it.

What's this repetition you speak of, I thought everybody loved those trafficking missions in the swamp. And you got to love the rednecks in this, they're so comically evil, they blow every actual comic book villain out of the water.

‘Mafia III’ took a risk by choosing a black protagonist, and it has really paid off

Mafia 3 sold 4.5m copies in its first week. really surprised.

Good lord. Leave it to some stupid journalist to think the game's success had anything to do with playing a black guy. People were fired up because it was in the 60's with great music and what seemed to be a good GTA 5 with a story. Unfortunately, we all got rinse and repeat mission structures doing the same thing over and over again with about 2 hours of actual creative (Standard by today's missions in other open world games) missions which were at the end of doing repetitive district missions.

If it wouldn't have sold, all gamers would have been racist.

Unfortunately, it did well. Which means two things: 1) 2k will continue Mafia 4 with the same rinse and repeat mission structure and it will be as boring as 3 was. 2) Next up: The protagonist will be a gender confused gone home college grad who is dealing with being Gay in the 90's and also happens to be working for the Mafia.
