Destiny has more aim assist on mouse than it does on controller, the devs themselves have written multiple articles about how they handle it.

You are probably talking about reticle friction (when something moves in front of you and drags the reticle) which is not the same as aim assist.
Then if this is true, waht is aim assist then, regarding MnK? Is it the bullet magnetism?

Magnetism, yeah. Bullet-bending within an invisible accuracy cone. They actually apply more to MNK because sticks already have the friction assist.

The first time they brought it up directly was when they were talking about nerfs to the Beyond Light preorder pulse rifle:

“This weapon sees over twice the usage, and dramatically higher effectiveness, on MnK than it does on controller,” he said. “With MnK having higher stability, accuracy, and auto aim, two bursts from NTTE are much easier to achieve in that sandbox, so we needed to tune it in a way that the difference was noticeable on MnK but did not ruin gun-feel for controller players.”

It's the same stat that their targeting mods and other perks like that impact. If mouse didn't have AA a ton of perks in the game would be completely useless.

It's definitely part of the core "Bungie" feel yeah but it's not a 1:1 amount for both inputs. They have custom tuning for a lot of things now.

I can concede to majority of the points, and fully accept that this could very well be that this is slop to be consumed; esp the track record of bungie setting norms to mtx's and live service gaming that has been relatively toxic for consumers over the last 10 years. Even seeing that while DEI is more or less out the door due to copious amounts of failure, the ghosts of it will still be systematically present for the foreseeable future..

But the art style being dei? maybe the characters because of their androgyny and essential low-effort base design; personally I took that for MTX cashgrab. In route of The Finals, customize every fascet of your character from hat to shoes.

The art style is just a 2006's GTA:Vice City's take on 1980's Miami(tho not as good).. another nostalgia-grab for an era that existed ethereally in the realm of marketing, for Marathon; it was when the world moved into the internet and 3d graphics age, an imagined future if you will.. its information-driven vectors influenced by corpo sponsorship. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if Sony wasn't more or less headstrong in the art direction as they were one of the main pillars to the product design of this era.

It's no Beskinski or Frazetta, and it's definitely some sort of amalgamation of acid techno mess.. but definitely sits up there around my personal favorite design era, next to brutalism; I was like 10-13yrold running to bookstores to copy down cheatcodes for video games.. before they were even on the web, or atleast I had web access.

Also, why is the "not for everyone" argument so damning? I definitely cannot recommend Tarkov to everyone, but I love it. As far as that video above, the Cycle was great.. the thing that shot themselves in the foot was balancing.. if you were high tier, low tier stood ZERO chance at winning.. I could do ketr runs in Tarkov, and win against Altyns but not because of headshots.. and then there were MMR "buckets" based off of currency gain rather than skill; so cheaters ultimately rose to the top, and any top player would face cheaters in 100% of their games. Which in turn bled their game of any creator advertisements via streamers, and content creators because they simply just left due to cheater problems.

There is something off about the art style. and it is really hard to identify what it is exactly.

asmongold is all, "its ugly, an thats why everyone hates it" but, first, is it?, and second, there are games with ugly pcs, that are popular. Tarkov itself isn't exactly nier automatic waifus.

south african/chav fashion. I think this might be part of it.
nobody wants to play as Die Antwoord.

the cyber- synth punk aesthetic. I don't think that is inherently the problem. Not the most popular genre, but its not hated.
no one was complaining about it in Synthetik. or cyberpunk, or ghost in the shell, or a million other animes.
I think if the characters were giving off a solidly Japanese culture aesthetic, everyone would be on board.

Weird as fuck. some hideous. some, why boners.

Extraction shooter, with "heroes", yet the heroes presented are super forgettable. not easy to identify easily, or remember.

Mouse has BM, so does Controller.

Mouse does not have AA, Controller does.

If you want to call AA a different thing, like "friction assist" then have at it.

AA happens before the shot is fired, BM happens after the shot is fired.

Art style is debatable but definitely makes things very clear.

Can't stand games where things are deliberately dark, unclear, or have ADS with clunky looking sights that cover half the screen.

I actually really liked the cinematic, very Love Death and Robots (and evidently one of the animators from that made the cinematic), and the whole aesthetic is kinda cool. The premise and setting is interesting as well, but only after I watched a 35 minute lore-dump video on the backstory of the original Marathon game and how this ties into it.

That being said, it is a PvP extraction shooter, so fuck that. Tarkov was great, but convinced me that these games are definitely NOT for me.

Asmongold did say something correct in my opinion - people don't want to play ugly/weird characters. Even ugly/weird people don't want to play ugly/weird characters, why do you think fat chicks all have anime avatars as pics on all their profiles. If there is a playable woman in the game, she has to have big tits.

Edit - Love the Die Antwoord reference Caliane Caliane , the characters def have that vibe. The robots even kinda look like Chappie, maybe Blomkamp is involved.

All of these we western devs have the same problem.

A decade of DEI hires.

How could it be anything but thus?

Personally, I feel it has a lot to do with the greybox visual of the game; it wasn't this critical til gameplay.. It' leans into a bit of 'unrefined' territory with thing's that is so starkly familiar.. some of the models are oddly jointed, and everything is surreal flat. Even in some instances, mobile game-like.. Which while there are a ton of indie games that succeed by this nature, we really don't see many AAA's do the same. Juxtapose with the original trailer, or even their cinematic, it's just nearly two different things.. But thats my take, maybe i'm missing something and am blinded because I just like it lol. It probably burns a lot of peoples retinas.

The unrefinedness of it all just gives me Reboot vibes and I am down with it. I even think of games like Virtual-On and The Grid. But at the same time, I also love Chappie and District 9.. Elysium no so much, but some cool visuals.. but Off The Grid kinda catches some flack; so you might be onto something with that. I feel there is a lot of heat down Bungie's neck too, so hypercritical would come with anything they'd put out regardless of its title(each Destiny expan I hear it for atleast a month).

But I do think as many have stated, the extraction shooter PvEvP might be a large reason too.. almost every single one of them sputtered out to some extent. I'm down for the adventure, and I think a tarkov-casual, or tarkov-lite.. has potentional much like the Apex/Warzone to PUBG.. whether or not this nails it, very tbd.

If it were a TPS, i'd care more about what the characters looked like; so long as they're not agenda pushing.. I only really care about what they do.

I'd love to see a trip a studio tackle something like this, but they'd never be able to secure any sort of appropriate funding from investors.

and just to plug it, I genuinely enjoy riloes content.

i realized this morning what is going on. with the graphics. the characters look like cyclists. all neon and dorky. goofy looking helmets that are unnecessarily faggoty. the characters adopt goofy postures and look androgynous and lanky.

its just visually repugnant.

All the characters are robot avatars, so I can forgive odd looking characters - I think if the ingame quality was closer to the trailer, it may have been better received. One issue with the gameplay graphics is you lose some of the contrast and fine detail, so the robots look worse

If they dialed back all the insane colors and fixed the cyclist look I think it would really help the appeal. (Corrected, stupid phone).

Bungie just lifted the alpha NDA so there should be more impressions coming next week. Quoting what they say will be available and not:

Alpha is a curated, limited slice of systems and content. We welcome feedback across the board, but the areas we are most keen to hear your thoughts on are:

- Weapons and gunplay
- Maps and survival gameplay
- Runners, including kits and build-crafting
- Early-game progression, including factions, contracts, and faction upgrades
- PvP engagements against other Runners
- PvE engagements against AI combatants

It’s important to note the Alpha is NOT the complete game. It does not include:

- Final visuals and graphics, including animations and lighting
- Full and polished UI
- All Runners
- All zones, including the Marathon Ship
- Pinnacle and end game content
- All weapons, items, consumables, implants, cores, and mods
- All factions and upgrades
- Long term progression and systems
- Complete narrative and storytelling systems and final shipping content
- Ranked play
- Final balance

- Final visuals and graphics, including animations and lighting (They aren't doing shit with animations with 6 months to launch)
- Full and polished UI (Mostly horseshit)
- All Runners (Oooh - all 6?)
- All zones, including the Marathon Ship (Oooh. All 2 more zones and a lobby area?)
- Pinnacle and end game content (Which it won't ship with anyway)
- All weapons, items, consumables, implants, cores, and mods
- All factions and upgrades (Same as above - nice marketing speak - needed to add another line to look bigger)
- Long term progression and systems (Same as pinnacle and end game content)
- Complete narrative and storytelling systems and final shipping content (It's a PvP extraction shooter with AI bots for PvE content - there is no narrative or storytelling or campaign they already said as much)

- Ranked play (Post launch anyway)
- Final balance (NO shit - this is always ongoing with live teams anyway)

Fixed.

The current era of 'competitive' CoD is all played on controllers because the aim-assist is so overwhelming that playing with a M/KB is a handicap.

Do with that information what you will
