My goal is to sustain Diamond, I have been there 3 times and it hasn't lasted more than a week. My stretch goal is GM, I am old and my reflexes aren't what they used to be.

I care less about the tank and moreso having fun. But the loser queue is NOT FUN.

In overwatch, for all it's negatives, the matchmaking always felt fair. Yeah sometimes you got rolled, but it wasn't constant. Most matches felt like you earned what you got. That's severely missing from this. And I love this game at the core, so I'm hoping they fix it.

I was plat/diamond in OW so I wasn't a full window licker, just occasionally some windows did look tasty.

What I read was that when you take a loss you have to log off for 8 hours because it tells the algorithm that you are not a "happy" player and will seed an 'easy' game.

The way I ranked up was going on long win-streaks by carrying trash players, but at a point the skill gap between myself and the other players shrinks and I can no longer carry the team so I end up losing match after match because I am too stubborn to quit and come back later when the algorithm 'rewards' me.

I refuse to play the algorithm mini-game. Just pit me against players of similar elo and stop all the fuckery to try and keep me online to maximize my chances of buying skins.

if anything, this strategy is destructive because as more players realize the trend, they're going to get furious and quit.
They say that about COD and its horrendous SBMM and yet every year the goy slurp that slop up like it's the Second Coming.

I think a game that removes all that shit and does what old games did, ping is king, will have a monster success on their hands.

But the suits won't allow it, they all have psychology degrees and no one needs those to make a game fun.

They'd all be out of a job.

For people still playing this trash and trying to climb the competitive ladder;

Apparently, there's an easy tip that your match is being manipulated by the algorithm and it's this:

When you queue and a match isn't found almost instantly (within 1-10 seconds) the algorithm is finding players that typically one-trick. If it takes 45+ seconds to find a match, you are ab-so-fucking-lutely in the drooler queue.

And given the fact that the vast majority of players are insta-lock dps, one-trick, idiots, the outcome is almost pre-determined.

If your queue doesn't pop almost instantly, stop queuing until it does.

Tanks are the rarest role that people play, so if you insist on playing into the algorithm, your best chance of success is to get really strong at tank. Or become a god-like healer that can compensate for the 100s of mistakes a team makes.

My interest has faded severely. I still log in for dailys to get skin rewards, but I am probably done with competitive for the season.

Same.

I stopped playing ranked, but I occasionally play a run of Quick Play. However, it's not fun bullying idiots. I played 12 games of QP yesterday and was MVP in 11 of the 12 games and had like 10 total deaths.

Yeah, I am tired of healing bad dps and losing or playing as dps getting SVP and losing. Was plat 1 about to hit Diamon and lost like 24 of 28, kinda soured me on ranked. I dropped to Gold 2, quickly got back to plat and just don't have the desire to play. And how is it every game there are two spidermans I get the shitty one? Every single fucking time.

I still play but I'm just having fun. When I get windowlickers it's just GG. Time of day matters a lot too. Sunday morning is for the retards.

I don't buy it that time of day matters, at all.

The EOMM controls everything.

Think about it -- how often do you have a 'good' game? I mean an actual battle instead of one team absolutely steamrolling the other. Maybe 1 in 5 or 6? It's probably closer to 1 in 10.

I was originally convinced that ranked had bots because I couldn't believe people are that bad at the game, but the more I looked into it, I realized that bots in competitive are nonsense. However, the rigged matchmaking is 1000% real.

The algorithm has millions of matches to analyze and it knows the win-rate of every conceivable team composition against every other team. And that's why it takes ~60-90 seconds for the rigged matches to pop. It's finding players that play a specific character the vast majority of the time to 'build' a team that has a massive disadvantage.

Think about it -- How many times has a Punisher/Hela/Iron Man spent an entire round doing whatever the fuck they wanted because your team has no-one to counter? Or you've got the worst team vs. a diving Psylocke or Black Panther?

And people refuse to switch to a better character out of stubbornness or they're one-tricks (as most people are) and the team gets rolled.

I can't say that I ever 'liked' this game, but I love the IP and that's what drew me in. Now, I'm growing to detest it. And listening to these whites kids talk on VOIP like they're urban nogs makes me hate them.

I sincerely understand why my grandfather's generation hated mine.

I don't know how you can think time of day doesn't matter. Different people are playing comp on 8am on a Sunday than 6pm on a Friday

Games like Rivals and OW always end up in a love/hate relationship.

I agree about the players on various days and hours. I usually lose alot more when I duo with my kid on Friday night in Overwatch. I don't really care since my goal is to play together.

There's no way to prove or disprove it. Even if true, it's pretty far down on my list of concerns.

Also, jayrebb jayrebb did you have a quickplay game today about 7:10 PM CST, playing Squirrel Girl?

I hope not -- that dude was buns. It didn't help that the team was absolute shit.

Just logged in, played one QP that took care of all my dailys. So I decided to play one Comp, we won decisively. I got like 27 points, normally I would be like LFG play til I lose. I hovered over the queue button for like 10 seconds and realized i had no desire to keep going.

There may come a future date where I get super into the game, but for now I will probably just play each comp season til I hit gold for skin. Being better than ~80% of the player base is good enough for me, I am closing in on 50 and this is a young mans game. Not sure proud is the right word, but I am proud of being better than most at my age.

I decided to give the competitive queue another go, but following the rule that I cancel any and all queues that don't pop before 25 seconds. I also played nothing but tank.

My matches have been far, far better. Many of them are actually fun back/forth contests instead of one-sided steamrolls.

oh,

and I hit my goal of Grandmaster.

Historically, my total win-rate isn't great (~48%) because I used to tilt and keep queuing in to 6-12 loss streaks. However, while I did have two 4-loss hiccups, I rarely lost more than 1 game in a row during my run from Gold III (de-ranked from Diamond after trying every hero) to Grandmaster III and won ~70% of my games.

The matchmaking is still AIDs, but you can game it a bit if you care to.

If your game doesn't pop in 25 seconds, how long do you wait to re-queque?

Usually, I would just hit the queue button and let the clock run to 25 seconds, cancel, and do it until it popped within the timeframe. The estimated time will fluctuate a bit, but I made absolutely sure to cancel it before it got past 25 seconds.

I really have no idea what the actual threshold is and how much of a difference it makes, but I am without-a-doubt convinced that queues over 45 seconds are a doom spiral.

I'd also like to ad the caveat that even doing this method, people choosing to tank is rare. I solo tanked about half of the games and obviously that's not ideal. Particularly since I tank with Thing/Groot/Cap. Mag and Strange bore the living shit out of me.

If you don't play a tank (and reasonably well), you're going to auto-lose a non-zero number of games.

I hate solo tanking so I tell them if we're solo tanking I'm playing DPS. Usually one of the window lickers switches
