It's reboot, bc there are no good avengers stories, you have to remember, avengers is shit tier writing. Or they'll make the avengers diversity team.

Yeah

Maybe they'll do "new avengers" (like new mutants) where it's a completely unrecognizable movie and it's actually all gay porno.

It's just really hard to imagine the universe without the key people in it (iron man, thor, hulk, captain).

RDJ, when he does walk away, will be missed. His take on Stark/Iron Man defines the MCU to a larger extent than any other character. I think they could probably recast/replace almost anyone (though Chris Evans is getting close to being irreplaceable) except him and audiences would eventually accept it provided Marvel did as well as they normally do with casting.

One thing I don't get with these movies is the dependence on comic plot lines. I bet a very small percentage of Avengers viewers are familiar with the source material. I mean we're talking about only 6 issues from 25 years ago. If the MCU showrunners come up with new plot lines that fit the heroes/villains overall motivations who really cares as long as they're interesting? Pretty much any comic character that survives more than one plot line has tons of continuity errors anyway so somebody's childhood is getting raped no matter what happens on film.

You can say that Avenger source material sucks, that's fine. Have some talented writers come up with some new stories.

Problem with the Avengers is some of their best villains are under Fox's thumb. I'd kill to see a Secret Wars done right some day.

They have options as to what they want to do once the main 3 actors decide to stop.

A) They recast, that's the most unlikely in my opinion. Each actor has pretty much defined what Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and Thor(Chris) are, and using a different actor to do the role probably wouldn't go well.

B) They replace the character in the suit. This is the most likely option, Tony, Steve and Thor(Chris) are gone...different people wear the Iron Man suit, the Captain America costume, and wield the Mjolnir(might be hard with events of Ragnarok). This is something that has happened to all 3 at different times in the comics. It also keeps the option for small cameos by all 3 actors if they want to.

C) They retire the heroes for a while. This is also a possibility, have other character take the lead for a few years. Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Spider-man, and others they could introduce in the next few years. Then reintroduce them later on using option A or B...which might be more easy to do later.

It's still a few years away though. What do we know for sure now? Black Panther 2018, Infinity War 2018, Ant-man 2 2018, Captain Marvel 2019, Infinity War 2 2019....a Spider-man 2, and Guardians 3...do we have anything else announced for sure yet?

I think the "talented writers" part is the issue. Most Hollywood writers apparently suck, which is why movie plots are so often poorly written. They've got literally decades of comic stories to use as a starting point, so I think they'd be stupid to try and reinvent the wheel and come up with something new. Hell, look at the DC movies and you can see how easy it is to fuck up the writing even when you're starting with pre-existing stories.

They have the Inhumans and several others that have appeared on TV. I think they were originally slated for the big screen but might just be relegated to TV only now.

edit: I suppose depending on his fate in the two Avenger movies Adam Warlock would be a good candidate for some movies.

They need to do what the comics should have done from the start, and have the characters age in real time. The endless retcons and reboots and retellings are retarded.

Have Tony Stark show up less often and eventually retire and give the suit to someone else. Have Captain America die. Why not?

One thing I don't get with these movies is the dependence on comic plot lines.
It's part tried and tested stories which people found popular, part shortcuts on the creative side if things have already been written.

I'm sure Marvel is planning on reclaiming the X-Men rights from Fox if at all possible, hence their current cold war on X-Men anything in comics, games etc. It'd line ip with the end of the current MCU pretty well; come 2022ish or so when it's all wrapping up and actors are aging out would be right about when the X-Men license would be likely to come back to Marvel after close to a decade of strangling the life out of that IP.

That's what I'm interested to see, how does a comic-driven company with comic characters choose to handle the fact that these projects cost millions of dollars per and the actors actually age. I think your suggestion is the correct one and what comics would benefit from the most, too

Spiderman is still at Sony, despite (or because of) the cooperation agreement. Spiderman Homecoming was a Sony-distributed movie, not a Disney-distributed movie.

Marvel and Sony essentially traded extended cameos of Spidey in (Marvel's) Civil War vs. Iron Man in (Sony's) Homecoming, along with some other cross-references and a writing class for the Sony guys from Kevin Feige in exchange for some Star Wars merchandise product placement.

But I doubt Disney will give Spidey a full front-and-centre role in the Avengers/MCU as long as it's not 100% theirs.

Outside of buying all of Sony's movie properties, it will probably never be theirs. Sony's deal when they acquired Spider-Man was the most comprehensive of those that Marvel made back then. Sony actually has creative ownership of the character on the movie side of things. Using him more than as just a cameo gives Sony more say in what would otherwise be a Marvel Studios movie.

I'd the Morbius movie before or after the Aunt May spinoff movie?

Sony are actually retarded.

when it comes to the next gen of MCU, there are plenty of characters to play with, they've shown they can use obscure characters to great success with GotG. the phase 1 characters have perfect set ups for them to walk away. Tony gets old and retires... he's already begun to move back to a much more advisory role as of late. the only way cap should step down is if he dies. I'd love to see a small portion of the films revolve around who should pick up the shield like they did in the comics. thor can become king thor and his duties are just too important for him to be galavanting around the galaxy anymore. hawkeye can retire for good, go be with his family. i like hawkeye and it'd be one of the few happy endings that any of the characters should get.

Wouldn't it be neat if they brought a new "Blade" character into the MCU?

I'd fucking love it if Fox becomes the MCU because then they would have access to the countless scores of Mutants and Fantastic Four characters/villains. That would rule. The Avengers could easily rest peacefully if that were to happen.

I wonder if MCU could pull all of the Netflix shows into future movies? Or does Netflix have something that will prevent them from doing that, even though they own the license?
