I'm not really into the tabletop gaming stuff, but I love to sculpt and paint in my spare time. Just wanted to say there are a ton of wicked paint ups in this thread. Great job everyone

So my wife went to hobby lobby and I swear just started grabbing stuff for me for Xmas lol. I got 25 Vallejo paints, milliput, some glue, some testors cement, and silicon sculpting tools. So I'm thrilled lol

Finally got around to doing some details (some is probably being generous) on the mimics I started a while back. Happy with how the ground turned out on both. Not so happy with the highlights on the chest mimic’s teeth, but the barrel ones turned out alright I think. Wish I’d made the tongues/gums a bit brighter though. Hubb was happy with them for his campaign though, so they’re getting all sealed up now.
I am super jealous of the work in here, though, I really wish I had more time to paint because I don’t feel like I’m improving at all with so many gaps between painting sessions. Hubb picked up some more minis for his table, so I’ll have some more practice coming up.

I definitely have to make it a point to schedule time to do this. In my case I honestly feel like it keeps me from working too hard and relieves stress.
I got myself some noise cancelling over ear headphones and I'm gonna watch Youtube or the Witcher as I paint. That's peak nerd for me.

I agree whole heartedly. It definitely is relaxing and centers me too. And the Witcher is so good.

I feel you, sometimes I get like 15 minutes in a week, I don’t feel like I’ve improved much in the past year.

Update time for me. I gotta get back in a flow. Holidays totally derailed me.
My Dwarves from the Greywater Set are done and have been based and pretty much 100% done.
I have my Stormcast Eternals mostly painted up from the Thunderstrike set. I think it's maybe 14 of the 18 in the set done. I still need to do the big hero dude on the drake.
I have 2 of the 4 from the small Stormcast set done, and the other 2 are halfway... primed and a base coat.
I started putting together my Chaos Slaves to Darkness set. I have most of them put together. Need to prime them and start painting.
I put together the Slaves to Darkness eternal spells. Need to prime and paint.
I have a good basic display set up too! It's a 2x3 foot laminated map with a cobblestone layout. I put that in a picture frame to give it a border. Ordered some Battlefield in a Box Sacrifical Stones for some scatter terrain.
Overall I'm in pretty good shape! If I paint up some Chaos I'll have a nice battlefield display going.

I took these with my phone so I am not sure how well they will come out. But this is the first thing in 40k I have painted that wasn't a space marine.
*edit* Its also the first time I have tried to use paints to blend up from dark to light rather than the easier base/shade/highlight. I did this on the skin and thought I did an okay job doing it.

I dig that guy! What is he from? I think he'd go well with my Chaos Army. I'm not really feeling any of the Warcry sets so I'm still waiting on what to get next.
Here is a pic of my display so far. I switched it up to forest.
The Chaos Slaves to Darkness are completely unpainted. I'll be working on that today. The 3 Dragons are also just placeholders until I can fill out the Chaos ranks.

He is a Tzaangor from the Thousand Sons Start Collecting box. Thousand Sons are one of the 'traitor legions' that turn against the Emperor in the Horus Hersey.... so he is a chaos demon spawn.

Hateyou those look awesome. Do they come on those bases like that? I really like the one on the left. What are you using to get that glow effect on the worm? Meaning is it inks or glazes or just normal acrylic paints with lots of layers.
These all come this way as far as bases. They did a good job mixing up the designs so they all have interesting bases. They aren’t all on circles either.
The glow is just acrylic paint, no technique to it really. In this case I painted inside the mouth pure white first so the green turned out brighter. Then just apply the green everywhere. Finally add pure white in the center to achieve the glowing look. You can see it really well in my watcher’s hood. In his case I did not prepaint with white because I wanted the green to be darker on the underside. I only added the white at the bottom of the hood after all the green was applied.

Dude hate that cloaked lantern thing looks so good. The green glow really works well. Nice to know an easier to paint method looks so good lol.

WTF with that shirt? Did the kid jump on it and it exploded while flying through the air? The pattern all random, covers the entire shirt and the amount is obscene. Doesn’t look like a spill, looks like someone was playing with a paint bottle while you were passed out on the couch.
Well he jumped on my arm. The bottle popped up onto my chest, bounced to my stomach, boned across my lap, then rolled on the floor. I saw paint in the grout on the tile that I just finished in my basement like 4months ago. Tore my shirt off and mopped up the paint with it. Then balled up the shirt. it does look insane, but like u wasn't even mad. It was just so over the top lol
